I think you're misremembering a bit. Bisping stepped up on like 5 days notice after Weidman unexpectedly dropped out of the fight with Rockhold. Rockhold didn't seek out an easy fight at all. Jacare, who would have been the natural choice, was injured and Yoel was out on suspension for PEDs.

I remember seeing a Mousasi interview recently in which he said that if and when he signs that he's probably gonna be matched up with Rockhold.

They're the clear 3-4 in that division, so it makes sense.
