From personal experience, anabolic steroids allow you to heal faster, which allows you to train harder and more often
This automatically gives you an edge over your opponent, which is why they are banned

There are other steroids like epo that literally give you an endless amount of cardio which obviously creates an unfair advantage

It all comes down to keeping a level playing field where the winner is supposed to be based on natural ability and natural hard work in your training

Also, its not encouraged to all athletes because it would be impossible to make sure all athletes are using at the same rate and not at an unhealthy level
Steroids at certain levels can be good for you, when they are overused it can become a real problems and since there is no way to absolutely control the levels all athletes use, it's best to outlaw them entirely imo

Personally I think that it's a tough discussion in regards to sports. Gayforlongo nailed it, and for all those reasons and more I feel athletes should have a choice to use or not. Problem is if all don't use then yes it's an advantage BUT again everyone is trying to find an edge in sports. I think Joe Schmoe juicing for the beach is fucking stupid but hey that's just me.

Sure, more than that it's like the "war on drugs". What do steroids do? Make you stronger, want to fuck like crazy, look better, feel better, I mean this is the drug you want to ban? Lol. We have seen what happens to people who are reckless with steroids so I won't even sit here and say there are no health risks, shit I don't even use them because I'm afraid of the health risks and I win the gamble with my health like that but people do and they are careful and use modestly and the majority seem to be just fine and living normal lives to normal ages.

imo there are a few reasons:

• It's because there are SO MANY bad side effects that it is not fair to introduce them. It puts fighters in the very bad, very unfair situation of having to decide to take something that could really fuck them up or not be able to compete. The side effects are so problematic that just taking regualr amounts of trt if ur a 40 yo dude with low T necessitates taking an aromatizing agent or ur estrogen is going to go crazy, cause all sorts of havoc, cause your blood pressure to rise, cause issues for your liver and kidneys and then ur going to have terrible issues when u get off it and your body struggles miserably to generate its own test. And this is not even full on roiding, it is basic trt. And to offset all these effects that every "roid doctor" will tell are def just going to happen you need to take MORE medications.
• It has such a huge impact on strength and force that it makes a fight much more dangerous. It is essentially using a weapon during a fight. Look at what happened with Vitor. Goes from KOing everyone to being a wet piece of beef jerky who can't win. You can really hurt someone when u amp yourself up that much.

You also need to try and mitigate the risks throughout the talent levels. You can't have only the top guys with talented doctors who keep them from using it and suffering side effects using it. You have to protect the guy who just started mma and gets told he needs to go do steroids. Did some internetting then ends up in a bad way or even worse in hospital.

Like professional cyclists wearing helmets. Not really needed, almost all of them wouldn't in a race. But they want people to wear them at amateur level to mitigate risk for smaller events so the rule is across the board.
