I've decided to rewatch Star Trek: The Next Generation (I'm about halfway through the last season) Jesus Christ, the only thing they used it for when it worked properly was fucking fencing. Other than that it did nothing but try to kill them or otherwise malfunction. Why in the fuck do they keep trying to use the God damn thing?

In the episode I'm currently watching the holodeck appears to have taken control of the ship. At which point do you just mothball the fucking thing?

Don't forget about Barclay. Dude was addicted to the holodeck and had to go to Counselor Troi for therapy. That might have been on Voyager though. Also Voyager used it for children stories for the kids too.

But yeah, it was usually a disaster. Such a great vr tool that I could see how you could get lost in it.

I would just hang out in it all day with 7 of 9 o_O

Don't forget romances with holograms, and Troi's disturbing commander test.

Pretty useful, I think, considering how lonely and frustrated people get when assigned to ships for a long time - even regular ones on Earth in IRL. So many problems because of that.

No, that was TNG. Fucking Barclay. "Okay, guys I have absolutely no ideas for this episode. Want to just do another Barclay one?"

That's something I hadn't fully considered, and is a very good point by you. Having said that, my concern is that the holodeck itself regularly tries to destroy the ship or kill its crew. Fucking Moriarty.

Anything was better than the annoying mother of Troi.
Gimme Barclay any day over that.

On a side note. I would love for Q to show up on a random show or movie and just start humiliating the most powerful bad guy he can find like Reverse Flash or any of the Marvel villains. Maybe smack the Night King around and turn Daenerys' dragons into lightning bugs.

I just realized that Barclay is Murdock from The A Team.
I didn't notice that previously, but there were a lot of other actors who were on TNG throughout it's seven seasons that I definitely did recognize. It was also cool that they actually had Stephen Hawking play himself.

But all the Holodeck episodes were aweome, except sometimes when they used it as a lame excuse to get out of a technical script issue

As I recall that bad guy from Sherolck Holmes is still flying around in there - did they ever resolve that? Would make a good film, like Khan coming back for FIlm #2

And thank you to the poster who said Troi's mother is annoying as fuck. Those were the only episodes I couldn't stand to watch

Show was dope/ I am still hoping for a Wesley Crusher/Traveller spinoff

Yes, and no. He's still flying around in there because as far as he's aware he and his woman are on the adventure they had requested.

I could write a killer Wesley Crusher spinoff lol Remember when he turned his badge in to Picard and said he was ashamed to wear it? lol that was badass

That's actually fucked up if you think about it. He quit his job and completely changed his life because the Traveler impersonated his dad in a dream.

I remember feeling disappointed in Wesley's sort of hippie rebellion...I wanted him to succeed in Starfleet. :(

Maybe it would have been more acceptable if there had been a good spinoff. Right now still just feels like a waste.

For proper usage of a holodeck refer to deep space nine preferably focusing on Quark or Worf.
