Formerly writing for Vice Sports with the series titled Cage Captions, my new project, Fight Facts is a solo continuation of that project.

The name may have changed, and some of the stylistic features from Cage Captions will also be different, but it's the same great information presented in a slightly different format. Fightland forever!

Like usual, if you have any questions, comments, queries or concerns, please let me know. I'm developing this with the fans in mind first and foremost, and I'm always looking for ways to improve it.

The visual aspect didn't come together last time because my graphics software was not cooperating. I plan on putting some visualizations of this data together tomorrow on Labor Day, but we'll see what happens.

Fight Facts: UFC Fight Night Rotterdam
9/3/17

Total Number of UFC Fight: 4308
Total Number of UFC Events: 409

King of the Monsters
Stefan Struve and Alexander Volkov combined for the tallest fight in UFC history, measuring a combined 163 inches (13’7”) between them. The 7’ tall Struve and 6’7” Volkov broke the record set and tied by Struve when he fought Sean McCorkle and Travis Browne.

Putin on the Ritz
ALL five Russian-based fighters won their bouts at this event, with four of them scoring stoppage victories.

The Bigger They Are…
Picking up his SEVENTH post-fight bonus for his “Fight of the Night” performance against Alexander Volkov, Struve is tied for the SECOND-most post-fight bonuses for a heavyweight in UFC history with Travis Browne and Mark Hunt, behind only Stipe Miocic with 8.

The Harder They Fall
Stefan Struve’s third round TKO loss to Alexander Volkov was the SIXTH KO/TKO loss he’s suffered in the UFC, tying him with Andrei Arlovski for the third-most KO/TKO stoppage losses in modern UFC heavyweight history (Antonio Silva with 7, Frank Mir and Gabriel Gonzaga with 8).

Reneau What I Mean?
With her TKO at 4:54 of the third round, Marion Reneau picked up the FOURTH latest stoppage win in UFC women’s divisional history.

The only later stoppages are Lauren Murphy’s third round TKO stoppage of Kelly Faszholz one second later, and Miesha Tate and Rose Namajunas’s fifth round submissions of Holly Holm and Paige VanZant, respectively.

Lining Them Up
Mairbek Taisumov picked up his FIFTH straight KO/TKO win with his first round one-punch KO of Felipe Silva. Taisumov earned his third consecutive “Performance of the Night” bonus for his efforts.

North by North-South
Michel Prazeres picked up his second CONSECUTIVE north-south choke submission, becoming the only fighter in UFC history to record more than one and just the FIFTH overall.

Coulda Been a Contender
Fresh off his August 22nd KO at episode 7 of Dana White’s Contender Series, Mike Santiago did not receive a contract but instead took and ultimately lost his ten-day notice bout against Zabit Magomedsharipov. Santiago has been stopped in NINE out of his ten career losses.

Easy Money
11 of 12 betting favorites won their respective bouts, with the only upset being Thibault Gouti taking out Andrew Holbrook in the opener.

What’s in a Name
Zabit Magomedsharipov is only the SIXTH fighter in UFC history to win a fight whose name starts with a Z.

At a whopping 15 letters, Magomedsharipov is the longest single surname of any fighter in UFC history.

I was surprised Struve didn't try and take the fight to the ground, 3 of those bonuses were submission of the night awards, majority of his wins are by way of submission, he's a better grappler than a striker.

Seemed to be happy to stand with Volkov, strange decision considering he landed some clean shots early in the fight and Volkov wasn't phased at all.

Yeah, there was a moment late in the 2nd when Struve started getting tagged that he clinched up and motioned like he was going to try to go for an inside trip or some other move to get him down, but that didn't work so he all but abandoned it. He should have known Volkov's boxing was more crisp than his, and you know he starts to get hurt when he starts to get bendy.

Had a feeling this card would be good. You get that many foreign fighters on a card and it's bound to have a lot of finishes.

Would like to see Struve consider retirement.

I usually like to sleep on these stats after I put them together to see if I come up with more, and I thought of another.

Crazy game plan, assume fighting at home had something to do with it, training with Henry's aswell, obviously that's what he's been working on.
