Why the hell did they put Gavin Tucker in there with Rick Glenn?

Tucker had 10 fights, only one in the UFC. He's an exciting prospect, with alot of potential, but that's it. He's not developed enough yet to be taking on these guys with almost 30!!!! Fights.

Why throw him too the wolves already?

And that ref... that motherfucker needs to be on the recieving end of what Tucker experienced last night, so maybe he'll understand better that fighters shouldn't be taking that kind of punishment, especially when it's fucking obvious that they're done... there were several moments in that fight where it could've been stopped and he was doing little else than covering up, going for panic wrestling takedowns and half assed leg locks.

That ref should never be inside the cage again. Fuck him.

Yeah, the refs job is literally to protect the fighters. The last round of the fight was the kid just taking damage with no hope of a comeback. Disgusting.

Exactly.

I have hope that Gavin will learn form this, fight smarter, and not get so emotional. He's so green he pisses grass, so he needs to go through some adversity too become the best fighter he can possibly be, but not at the expense of his long term health.

This is why shitty ref's need to be reprimanded and called on their bullshit.

He's the lead ref for the Edmonton commission. They'll give him a pat on the back instead of any kind of punishment.

All the more reason he should be reprimanded.

"If HE can get away with shitty officiating I guess all the rest of us can too" - Every ref in Edmonton.

tbh I thought they were throwing him to the wolves by putting him in with Sam Sicilia for his debut, not that Sam was great but he had a ton of UFC experience and Gavin was coming off of small shows in Halifax.

Gavin suffered from what got a lot of guys in trouble over the years: he was hyped too much too soon and was consequently moved along too quickly. Remember he was a big favourite over Glenn going into this fight.

He's still got a lot going for him - super tough and very talented. Hopefully he's one of those guys who gets better with a loss. Remember Wonderboy getting his ass beat and dominated by Matt Brown, and then coming back much stronger.

Edmonton is like Nevada's drunk cousin that always declares that they're not afraid to go back to jail. If nothing happens to a ref in the US then it's definitely not going to happen to one in Edmonton.

No disrespect intended, but I enjoy him watching get beat up. Welcome to the WME era.

This is true. Same thing with Rory after the Condit loss...

Still, they didn't take the kind of beating that Tucker took iirc.

Correct. Edmonton is where Tim Hague died. Where headliners get to use their own gloves and take them home and load them up the night before. It's the place where they are always bragging about how old school they are. UFC really has no business doing business in that backwater.

In Edmonton they proudly maintain a unique, 'old school' standard for how much damage a fighter is permitted to take. The referee was very experienced and knew exactly what he was doing.

That's just stupid.
And sadly, nice guy Tim Hague recently died there in a boxing mismatch. Of course they talked a good game about 'soul searching' and 'investigation' and a 'moratorium' but predictably, that was just lip service. Quite a short moratorium that was. They are notorious slime balls. If you want to see something disgusting watch that boxing match.

My apologies, I was thinking that this was about the Alex White v. Mitch Clark fight.

That said, upon rewatching, anyone who thinks the Tucker/Glenn fight should have been stopped should go watch ballet. Tucker was defending himself to the end, looking for leg locks, got back to his feet near the end of the 3rd, was still fighting, and if you think the fight should have been stopped then you are a victim of the pussification of fighting, and look at it as a sport. Boo hoo, he got punched in the face. NO FUCKING SHIT, it's a fight, not a glorified sparring session. Either fighter can quit at anytime, if they want to CONTINUE TO FIGHT, then more power to them. I implore anyone who thinks that fight should have been stopped to go fuck themselves, and go watch soccer instead.

Wow. That's a strongly stated opinion you have right there hombre. I like your intensity.

As it happens I myself am not really following the cage fighting very closely anymore. The level of athlete competing these days I find find wanting. And I never really watched it for the gratuitous violence in the first place, I saw it as more of a living laboratory to rest the effectiveness of various fighting styles. Now that this has been largely settled, what's left?

fewer weight classes, gloves and gis being optional, 1 20 minute round and if you don't finish your opponent you only get your show money. That would be a good start.

The old NHB was a lot more interesting, I'll give you that. Definitely held my interest.

However that little guy was taking a shellacking in that fight and wasn't turning the tide that night. I actually thought that he was the more skilled fighter but he gave away far too much size.

Get rid of weight cutting imo.

Severe weight cuts were, are, and will always be stupid.
