There are a lot of people in this world that are super nice but are also horrible at their jobs. If anything, that's his way of saying that he doesn't want people taking shots at her looks or anything cheap like that because she is a nice lady... Even if she sucks at her job.
Yep that's how I took it too. I've heard a handful of people this week say that Adalaide is always super nice when they've talked to her, which honestly is starting to sound like part of the reason she can keep a job she is godawful at.
