Just a few weeks ago, Bellator MMA hosted a match-up between Ken Shamrockand Kimbo Slice, which lasted less than three minutes but brought with it ensuing controversy that has now lasted over two weeks.

Slice and Shamrock were slotted in the main event of the Bellator 138 fight card yet the fight ended with many believing it was a fixed contest with a predetermined result. The reason behind this was Shamrock's inability to complete the rear-naked choke he had locked in before getting knocked out less than a minute later.

Fuel was added to the fire when UFC color commentator Joe Rogan revealed that he thought the fight was "fake as f**k."

"That fight looked fake as f**k," Rogan said on his 'Fight Companion' podcast. "There's a couple things I don't like about that fight. I don't like that clinch. That long clinch that they had when they were mouth to ear. They were mouth to each other's ears for a long f***ing time."

Speaking with Submission Radio this week, Shamrock responded to Rogan's speculation and added that a celebrity of Rogan's stature should refrain from commenting on subjects that he has no proof on.

"Why in the world would someone in Joe Rogan's position sound off on something like that when there's no proof, when it's just speculation of his thoughts of what he thought. That could literally ruin somebody's career. That's like me going out there and telling his wife that he cheated on his wife, yet I don't have any proof, but someone just said something. Those are things, when you say them being in a professional position where you have the people's ear and you have a responsibility to make sure that whatever you say, you can back up, that you could prove, and not just say it because you think it. Because you ruin people's lives on something that you have no proof. And he's wrong what he's saying. He's wrong what he's saying, and therefore he could have ruined my career and my life on what he's saying, when there's no proof to it."

Shamrock then vehemently reiterated that he would never attempt to predetermine the outcome of a fight.

"I swear on everything that I love, my family, my god, everything that I love. That fight was not fixed. And the people that are saying it are saying it because they're angry or they lost a bet, because they bet in Vegas, or they're just trying to be hurtful. That's it."

That's a tough one. Rogan should be able to express his opinion, which us exactly what he did.

Tired of Ken's crap. Was he a pioneer in the sport? Sure. Did he participate in worked fights? Sure. Is he relevant? Not even a little.

Joe Rogan, on the other hand, is both equipped and qualified to make judgements and observations on fights, being that the UFC pays him to do so and has for almost twenty years.

So for Ken to ask "Why in the world would someone in Joe Rogan's position sound off on something like that when there's no proof, when it's just speculation of his thoughts of what he thought." is not only offensive to English teachers on a grammatical level, but offensive to fight fans. What proof does Joe or I need? A signed confession? The fight sucked, so I HOPE it was a work for Ken's sake.

Do I think the fight was a work? I don't, but I wouldn't be surprised. It was a freak show fight between a has-been and a never-was that have more recognition than title contenders in the UFC. If I were Dana White, I'd be more concerned with that then Reebok, because making changes like ex-communicating sponsors that help fighters train full time in favor of short-sited deals is going to push more free agents towards the Bellator circus and waste their talents.

A lot of people watched the fight and thought it was a fix. Funny that Ken brought up people losing money in Vegas by betting on him as the favorite. Someone placing sizable money on Kimbo in that fight would have made a ton. It would be easy for Ken to get an associate to place a bet against him and then throw the fight and split the winnings.

I don't think it was a fix. Even if I did, I would take Ken's swear that it wasn't as the truth. When you swear on everything I'm going to believe you until your family starts dropping down getting their eagle on (die) at a rapid speed.

I don't know if this applies to Kimbo as well (probably not), but Ken was a pioneer in MMA, he's in the UFC Hall of Fame...for what that's worth, and his career is his legacy in the sport, not literally fighting. From that standpoint, Rogan and others do a certain amount of damage by speculating in the manner they do. That's a realistic concern on Ken's part, even if I personally tune into Joe's podcast to hear his opinions and at times wild speculation about a myriad of subjects.

No one wants to see those two fight again, but something tells me we haven't seen the last of Kimbo in a Bellator cage.

I might be one of the few who didnt see this as a fix. To me it looked like a 51 year old man, who has put his body through the ringer his entire life and half of it in MMA. He looked slow and out of practice.

His fight with Franklin looked more suspicious than this fight.

Edit - That said, Rogan is entitled to his opinion. Ken is also entitled to refute, which he has. I can understand why he would be upset, but he also has to know that this opinion is out there, and that its a majority opinion.

I'm still feeling like it was just a shitty fight, not a work. But Rogan knows way more than i do about fighting. I don't think he would say it if he didn't believe it. He praises Bellator often. If Ken's track record was unblemished maybe he would get the benefit of the doubt. However, some of his past fights make us question this one even more. That being said, I picked Kimbo to win the fight. Real or fake, I would pick probably pick Ken in the rematch. Kimbo could get taken down by a swift wind. Ken would probably be able to finish next time.

Maybe I'm falling right into their trap...image.jpg

Shamrock is an old man. I honestly don't give a shit what he has to say because he has more reason to throw a one off fight than win it. Shamrock was good when he was on the juice.

No excuses but I'm drunk on sangria that's my reason.
