The UFC will donate $1 million to the families of victims of the Las Vegas mass shooting, a promotion spokesperson confirmed with MMA Fighting on Monday.

More than 50 people were killed and more than 500 more injured in a terrifying massacre Sunday night. It’s being reported by outlets as the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States.

A gunman, now identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, opened fire on a country-music festival from a hotel window inside the nearby Mandalay Bay. Paddock shot and killed himself; Las Vegas Metro Police officers found him dead in the room.

UFC president Dana White first told Adam Hall of the Las Vegas Review Journal about the donation earlier Monday. The UFC has long had its headquarters in Las Vegas.

UFC president Dana White first told Adam Hall of the Las Vegas Review Journal about the donation earlier Monday. The UFC has long had its headquarters in Las Vegas.

In a statement to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, the UFC confirmed that its UFC 216 event Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will go on as planned.

“Our focus right now is on supporting the community and those affected by Sunday evening's events,” the statement read. "UFC 216 on Saturday, October 7 at T-Mobile Arena will proceed as scheduled until further notice.”

The UFC has run 30 shows at Mandalay Bay dating back to 2001. The Las Vegas Village, where the Route 91 Harvest country-music festival was held over the weekend, was also the site of the media center for the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match in August.
