That's because your neighbors are armed.Indeed you did. I was referring to the loss of power and the inconveniences it causes, not any lack of security.

I don’t think actual homicide by a firearm is even close to our top ten leading causes of death. If you take out suicide and self-defense from the number of firearm deaths, it’s fairly low. I, statistically, have a higher chance of going to work and dying in my normal course of tasks than I do of someone randomly shooting me.The country would be a lot safer if there were no guns in the hands of private citizens.
Not even a conservatard can deny that.
In comparison to a third-world country with more corruption and illegal gun ownership, yes.I don’t think actual homicide by a firearm is even close to our top ten leading causes of death. Well I know for sure you've expressed disinterest in traveling to Europe because of the constant attacks there. Do you prefer the security and freedom we have here, or what they have there? In comparison to a third-world country with more corruption and illegal gun ownership, yes.
But homicide rates in countries with a similar level of development and more stringent gun control are much, much lower than they are here.
By criminals, you mean elected and unelected politicians, yes?You don't think criminals would start reigning terror if they knew citizens didn't have guns?
Like an increase in home invasion, robbery, etc?
I disagree entirely. The obsession was always there. And if it weren't, we'd all still be saluting the Union Jack.I think that the obsession with guns in America is bad.
Well, we have over 300 million firearms in the country. While our homicide rates may be higher, overall crime is higher per capita in the UK. I believe Politifact or something like that tried to compare crime as best they could and the UK slightly edged us out, though it's hard to get a clear picture being that we classify crimes differently. So to your original point, I don't believe the country would be safer. I believe a criminal with intent to harm, rob, etc. will do so no matter the amount of firearms in the country. While your chance of being shot in a robbery goes down, your chance of being stabbed during that robbery will go up.In comparison to a third-world country with more corruption and illegal gun ownership, yes.

Your chances of being killed are still much higher, more than double even of the closest developed country.Well, we have over 300 million firearms in the country. Straw man but I'll answer it.Well I know for sure you've expressed disinterest in traveling to Europe because of the constant attacks there. Do you prefer the security and freedom we have here, or what they have there?
I would argue that your examples are more in line with humans always wanting bigger, faster, better.I disagree entirely. The obsession was always there. And if it weren't, we'd all still be saluting the Union Jack.
I'm just trying to understand why you would trust the state for protection over yourself.Straw man
Gun control laws won't work. Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, etc. has taught us that. So the only viable way to control firearm related crime is total confiscation. That simply will never happen.Straw man but I'll answer it.
I would prefer a much lower homicide rate than what we have, similar to that of a developed country in western Europe. That is not attainable with the current gun control laws we have.
And btw, I expressed disinterest in traveling to major European cities, not to Europe as a whole.
I probably talk about guns like you do TVs. I'm also a combat vet and have been shooting since I was 6 years old.I would argue that your examples are more in line with humans always wanting bigger, faster, better.
The obsession I'm talking about is the one that leads people to open carry even though they don't even shoot regularly. The kind that leads people to own weapons because it's cool without realizing the damage that they can do with it.
I've heard so many asshats speaking about getting a gun in ways that I sound when I'm talking about buying a TV. They're obsessed with having a toy that makes them tough instead of having a tool that can help make them safe.
Do you think our military would Participate in helping to confiscate? Would you?Gun control laws won't work. Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, etc. has taught us that. So the only viable way to control firearm related crime is total confiscation. That simply will never happen.
Yes but you're probably giddy about a cool new mechanism or something. I'm sure you at least sound like the nerdy guy freaking out over a new TV and it's specs instead of "ooh it's shiny" (even though I've had that reaction to a few guns I've held)I probably talk about guns like you do TVs. I don't think domestic deployment of big Army for that would be legal. They aren't a law enforcement entity.
The U.K. had to start putting bans on acid sales yesterday. Want to try again? The country would be a lot safer if there were no guns in the hands of private citizens.
