There are so many incredibly talented fighters in the world making it hard for them all to get the proper respect and notice that they deserve. Whether it be from fans, media, fellow fighters, whatever or whoever it may be, there are and have been very great fighters through the years who haven’t quite gotten recognized for how good they really are. Who are these underrated mixed martial artists?

I'd have Frank at #1 but great list none the less

Good list. I'd take Frank off only because I don't feel he was ever underrated except maybe when he came in as the underdog against Kevin Jackson. He had his run and is more deliberately excised from some promotions history than he is underrated.

In his place, I'd put Matt Serra who was a close decision away from knocking BJ out of that lightweight championship tournament and who held his own at welterweight despite being at the tail end of his career. No one expected the Hughes fight to be as close as it was because they slept on Matt and of course the GSP win was legendary. He was a quality fighter and one of the best BJJers of his generation.

I'd have Diego on the list. He caught Pulver syndrome and fell in love with his striking. Had he stuck to his grappling skills, he would have been a champ.

Joe B. married Megan Olivi. He wins at life.

Fitch was never underrated. But he was the UFC version on Knish in Rounders. He wasn't there to entertain you, he was there to win.

I know a few people who trained with Clay back in his G2 days. They all said the same thing. Clay never was great in practice, but when they locked the cage door, he was a totally different fighter.

I am blown away at Raphael Assuncio. That paragraph talking about what he's done and who he has beat-WOW.

I'd throw in Matt Hume. There wasn't many fighters around back when he was fighting but in hindsight, Hume was really ahead of the game as a fighter. Of course he is widely recognized as one of the best coaches in today's mma, but I think much of that is attributed to how well rounded and ahead of the curve he was back in his time.



Not nearly as accomplished and not worthy of being on the list, but worthy of a mention is Drew McFedries. Not a world beater, but man EVERYTIME that guy fought it was a barn burner.
