That's what paper champion means, they didn't beat the champion for the title. Eg interim or vacant titles.

Bisping knows he'll get caught if he tries to finish the fight against Henderson. He finished Luke because he had the skills and ability to capitalize on Luke's mistake (and it was fantastic) but,imo, he doesn't have the skills to go out and try to finish Henderson without leaving himself open. If he gets touched by Henderson then he's going down and both men know it. It'll be an interesting game of tactics.

It's the face of a fighter and even though I think the guy's a XXXX (just gives off that vibe), he never quit fighting. But he did lose that fight, he was the feistier fighter but it was clear as day how afraid he was of Silva when Silva decided to start slinging shots at him. Silva > Bisping, anyone who disagrees is wrong.Does this look like the face of a winner?..

I always thought a paper champion is like a paper tiger......weak......
Some people probably use it that way, especially after Clubber Lang used it on Rocky, despite Rocky stopping Apollo Creed to legitimately win the title.
Yeah, but he was then fighting cans and was avoiding clubber so he was every bit the paper champion......
Depending on your interpretation of the term, yes.

I'm going to agree with clubber. This is how I look at that term. I would say there are no paper champs in the UFC.
Either way, there are ufc paper champions.
If we use the nonlinear definition, we have DC and Aldo as paper champions.
If we use the lesser credibility definition, both McGregor and Bisping arguably won their titles by fluke and have made no defences yet.

And this is why I have people calling Bisping a paper champ. Like I said I don't agree with it. Just pointing out 4 reasons to love of or hate it.
a true champion doesnt dodge the number 1 thru 12 contenders and opts for the number 13th guy. That right there is a paper champion on the run faster than a guy playing pokemon
ive said before that this fight is a fucking travesty but it still doesnt mean he isnt THE champion
Well technically according to the UFC head attorney they dont have champions they have reward winners who on a given night win and are rewarded with that nights award... i kow i know its lame but that came from the UFC
yes , i read that as well but that would make them all "paper champs" wouldn't it ? so why is Bisping the only one being discredited in this way when he legitimately won the title from the previous champion (paper or not)
I think, following the train of thought of those who use this, he is viewed as a paper champ because they think he got lucky and will falter and fall quickly. They view him as being to MMA what Buster Douglas or Hasim Rahman were to boxing.
i dont think he is any different that any of the ones holding a title. He tho choose to run from the Number 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 fighters. Sure some of the guys were scheduled to fight but to call out henderson who may or may not perform well shows that he does want top competition, Anderson Silva beat Bisping in reality so maybe a rematch and a clear win there would change peoples view.
And when Hendo KOs him it's going to be even more fantastic.
as bad as id love to see it, i think hendos days are past him. Thats why Bisping was so eager to jump to fight him

Fought top competition before the belt now that he has the belt has chosen to fight #13, Hendo was top competition. I suspect a Vitor fight would draw more PPV. so winning a fight by a lucky punch or a close disputed decision means that that win is void ? i know your just trying to explain and these may not be your opinions but they just seem silly to me
agree that it should be the best fights the best as far as rankings go ... just not the paper champ stuff
100% not my opinions. For instance does the fact that Holm is 0-2 since beating Rousey change the fact that she dethroned Rousey in embarrassing fashion? No. Does Serra's win over GSP and subsequent loss make him any less champion? No. I think people struggle with understanding the turnover of belts in MMA. They want everyone to be GSP, Silva, or Fedor and then dismiss guys without long runs as flukes or paper champs. It also doesn't help Bisping that many still think Weidman or Rockhold are the best in the division and fell victim to unfortunate circumstances.
In my opinion Bisping is champ. Won it fair and square. Doesn't mean I won't hope Hendo knocks his block off and retires but Bisping is the champ no doubt.
