That's what paper champion means, they didn't beat the champion for the title. Eg interim or vacant titles.I once called Cormier a "champion on paper" because he didn't beat Jones.
Never call any mma fighters a "paper champion" because they beat someone very good to get their belt and will have to fight someone until someone like Jones returns.
A "paper champion" might be used in boxing as there are so many championship belts and boxers are known for avoiding fights if a proposed fight is a serious risk and they might lose.
As much as I don't like him, bisping beat the champ and will take whatever fight the UFC gives him which is the fight that will be the most interesting from a promotional side of things and make them the most money.
Bisping knows he'll get caught if he tries to finish the fight against Henderson. He finished Luke because he had the skills and ability to capitalize on Luke's mistake (and it was fantastic) but,imo, he doesn't have the skills to go out and try to finish Henderson without leaving himself open. If he gets touched by Henderson then he's going down and both men know it. It'll be an interesting game of tactics.I would love to see Hendo get the belt. That would be the perfect ending to a legendary career. Unfortunately, it seems very unlikely to me. Of course Hollywood Henderson can end it with one Bomb, but I'm sure Bisping will stay on his bike and out point him to a decision.
It's the face of a fighter and even though I think the guy's a XXXX (just gives off that vibe), he never quit fighting. But he did lose that fight, he was the feistier fighter but it was clear as day how afraid he was of Silva when Silva decided to start slinging shots at him. I think, following the train of thought of those who use this, he is viewed as a paper champ because they think he got lucky and will falter and fall quickly. the Silva fight was close and could have went either way but it didnt and Bisping won , if Anderson won im sure there would be people saying that "Bisping was robbed " , " how could Bisping have lost that fight " and so on but this is why we have these discussions i suppose

100% not my opinions. For instance does the fact that Holm is 0-2 since beating Rousey change the fact that she dethroned Rousey in embarrassing fashion? No. Does Serra's win over GSP and subsequent loss make him any less champion? No. I think people struggle with understanding the turnover of belts in MMA. They want everyone to be GSP, Silva, or Fedor and then dismiss guys without long runs as flukes or paper champs. It also doesn't help Bisping that many still think Weidman or Rockhold are the best in the division and fell victim to unfortunate circumstances.so winning a fight by a lucky punch or a close disputed decision means that that win is void ? i know your just trying to explain and these may not be your opinions but they just seem silly to me
