Paula should've pulled herself up by her boot straps instead of falling in line with what her parents life was.

lol @ this. Okay... that's why the lines are getting farther and farther apart right? It's so easy to say "well she should pull herself up by her bootstraps" when you're not in that position.

The mega rich are pulling away yes, money builds money unfortunately. But getting into the middle class takes work but can be done.

Agreed. I'm generally critical of right wing notions but removing accountability doesn't help anyone. I agree culture does have a significant effect but your background is not an inhibitor to becoming successful.

And that's also not to say that some people aren't born into a shitty situation and will have to fight/try harder to get out of that, but it can be done. I just don't like the well i was born into this so there's no way out, feel sorry for me bullshit. You don't need to have Donald Trump money to to be happy or live a decent life.

The guy narrating that video sounds exactly like you'd expect and probably looks like it too. "All you have to do is wake up" - how is that going to redistribute wealth?

These far lefties are always claiming inequality but what do they want to do about it? What are their proposed solutions? They claim it's the wealthy person's fault and maybe that's true but surely some responsibility should be "fairly distributed"?

IMHO the culture of those in poverty is a huge factor. They often don't tell their kids to aspire, they use the line, "it was good enough for me, it's good enough for my kids." They celebrate stupidity and mock success. Pulling yourself out of poverty can be done, ergo there is at least some level of personal responsibility to be had.

Of course not all or maybe even most people in poverty subscribe to this culture but education is, IMHO, the biggest factor. Kids don't know how to break out or the path is seen as insurmountable or impossible and their parents haven't provided an example of it. It takes hard work for sure but they can do it.

It is incorrect for you to believe that global equality is solely a 'far left' agenda. The world we live in is far more complex than the political spectrum that you may agree with. The social and economic issues surrounding the reasons for such a divide between the rich and poor can only get worse when all we have to say is 'Get your shit together, look I did it' or like you've done, blame it on the parents (baffling in itself) or the culture. Sweeping generalisations are not the most educated approach to such complex argument..

I don't mean to sound condescending, but like you said, Education is key, for everyone, even for those who believe they're educated.

So again, what are you proposing to deal with wealth inequality?

I grew up in low income housing on a council estate, living in a single parent household on benefits. I lived the lifestyle and I know the culture. You may be baffled by my blame on parents and culture but you provide no alternative (again). Kids can get an education and get out of poverty. Why don't they? While my goal was to go to university and become an engineer, the kids I was growing up with had no idea what they wanted to do with their lives. They weren't encouraged to do well. Kids who did well at school were made fun of.

Why do Chinese/Asian children outperform any other demographic at school? Because their culture encourages them to study hard and pursue higher education. To dismiss culture is mind blowing and erroneous.

I don't "believe" I'm educated, I AM educated. Leigh Remedios BEng (HONS) (First) CEng MIET MIRSE. That's not an appeal to authority, it is simply to help dispel your ad hominem. You can try to condescend me as much as you like but it doesn't make your point any stronger.

You have identified a problem but you have neither identified a cause nor a solution. Maybe you should start with that before criticising others who are attempting to.

It's not one thing completely or the other. There's points to be made for both statements.
