Bushkill Blades @Bushkill Blades

Alto, curious if you've ever heard of/knew of Frank Turley the old blacksmith out of Santa Fe. I think he passed away handful of years ago. I have a piece he forged that I might be looking to get finished up.

I have a 12" saw blade that chipped a tooth so it's of zero value.

But I was wondering - since I believe these blades are already heat treated - could I make a knife out of it? Just guessing at thickness - it's probably 3/32"

So long as it's not a, "modern" blade where only the teeth are hardened, it's viable.

Just take care not to overheat the steel towards the edge when working it. Never let the color change near the edge. Keep it cool when working.

Though, you may need a torch at the very least to soften the handle if you plan on drilling through it. That, or carbide drilling.

Hell yeah, I remember him. He used to post on Iforgriron.

It'd be an honor to finish one of his pieces.
I'll upload some pics later. Think I have some of Frank and my dad, he went to Franks School in the early 90's. While he was there Frank took an old octagonal musket barrel and forged a tomahawk/ peace pipe out of it for my dad while he watched. It's fairly rough and not finished. I have had it ever since and its never been on a handle.

lol, people are gonna lose their shit if I did.

For the record Dan, my daughter and her boyfriend loved the Tanto's that I won and gifted to them for easter. 10 of their friends asked if I could adopt them.

Here are a few pics. Talked to the old man about it last night and he bent my ear for about an hour talking about his time at Franks. He was pretty stoked about the idea of getting it finished up.

If it's something you'd be interested in taking on hit me up and we can discuss.

So, the ko-katana is all clayed up and ready for heat treat. Just waiting on oil to fill the new quench tank.

The gladius is in progress as well.

Figure maybe 3-4 weeks til one of em is finished. Could be either one done first. Depends on the will of the gods.

That is truly awesome.

I'd be happy to put a haft on it and finish the blade for you.
Right on! Let me put out a few fires and I will get with you on the details. I sent my Dad several pics of your work and he gave you the nod of approval. That's a pretty good feat coming from him. He mainly forged bits and spurs but we used to do all the ornamental iron fences, gates, stair rails etc for all the high end homes around here. I wish he still had his shop but unfortunately he got rid of most of his stuff.

That is a 9.5" Chef in 420 layer Damascus.

Handle is a mix of cast resin, dyed Maple burl, G10 & reconstituted gemstone.

Hours sitting and sanding it by hand.

Some shit just cannot be done right via machine.

The burl section is harder than the resin, the g10 is harder than both and the gemstone is harder than all of the rest combined.

Gotta shape that shit by hand, otherwise the machine grinds away the softer parts at a ridiculously fast rate while the harder parts stick out proud.

Why do is have the feeling that fucking gorgeous beast would of been mine đŸ˜¢
I think I already know who that’s for. đŸ˜‚
Unless it’s another knife with the same style handle. But the guy that I think bought it already showed me the pics before I saw them here. But that’s a beauty man. Love that handle.
