No joke, that's healthcare rationing for you.

They have made the cost decision between chickenpox as a low risk free herd immunity and gambling the requirement for a serious shingles campaign to go with the varicella campaign.

We in the USA, always ready to spend, are doing both.

If you have money in the UK, your kid is best vaccinated.

Have you ever gotten anything that made you puke for a day or so?...I just call that the flu, maybe it is someting else.

I thought almost everybody occasionally got some bug that made your stomach all fucked up like that.

I got dysentary in the jungles of burma. Thought, "I might actually be in trouble". That's from drinking river water and was probably e coli.

Outside of that, I don't really get sick. Maybe a respiratory thing every few years. I wash my hands a lot mostly. I change out of my scrubs when I get home quickly.

Flu = influenza. Its a particularly nasty bug. If you don't have fever, 99% its not the flu. Otherwise, all bets are off. I've seen flu look like all kinds of stuff, but the classic is fever + bodyaches + other stuff (nausea, vomiting, respiratory, etc.)

I got the shits from drinking downstream from a beaver pond...we thought it was the source of a spring....nope was a re emerging stream with shitty water...Brutal..never make that mistake again.

Is dysentary from bad water or something?

My GF and ID are treating a kid that was in the middle east for leishmaniasis. This was missed by a few other docs as many have never seen this. She has treated soldiers coming home from the middle east so she has seen it before but not down here. It was really bad on the soles of his feet. Plastics took him in the OR for scraping. He is doing much better now. Nasty stuff out there. Every time she does a hospital consult which she hates, she takes a bleach bath.

Do you honestly believe you are better informed on this than your childs pediatrician? Your son deserves better.

Those who don't read have no advantage over those who can't.

I have access to the same information as a pediatrician. I may not be able to discern it as well. However, I feel confident that I can understand most of what I read and make a decision for myself.
