Somewhat related.

I have to commute to work some days and I got to thinking about something with better gas mileage. Looked at a Maverick online and put my email in. In the interim I started to read up on them and was turned off. Massive amounts of recalls on this thing and one of their motors can 100% catch fire but they have been carefully maneuvering around recalling it because it would require a full engine replacement. Then the Ford CEO has come out and said managements bonus structure is being changed and it revolves around quality not quantity. Then you look at the number of recalls they have compared to other manufacturers. Its fucking crazy actually. Ford has completely fucked up. Ive had 6-7 different F150s in all but their 3.5 and never had issues.

So anyway the sales lady texts me asking when I would like to come in.

I tell her basically the above that there are too many recalls and I am not sure I want to stick with Ford. Her response?

"I understand"

Lol. She just dropped it just like that. Sales machine set to off position. I have never in my life encountered something like this from a sales person, ever.

Ford must really be doing some dark shit behind the scenes if their salespeople wont even sell their trucks.

My Dad just retired one yesterday, says it is down to probably one cylinder. He donated it.

Had 400,000+ miles on it, was higher trim outback from early 2000s.
He has been using it as a work truck for years, hauling firewood and driving steep slopes as he cleared them with his saw.
He beat the shit out of it, and it had plenty of beatings over its time. Tough cars and the traction is phenomenal in almost all conditions. He has two other nice outbacks, but loved driving the old beater to the ground lol.
My lady has one as well.

Maybe up north there that is true.

In my experience once you initiate contact with a dealership they will call, text, and email you until the day you die. I actually bought a 2011 F150 from this place some years back.

Aside from that, its merely a sales objection, and a small one at that. They have an entire lot of cars.
When someone starts talking about recalls they know they aren't buying a car and if they are, they're going to be a pain in the ass to deal with because they're marks for themselves.

Salespeople are very transient, rarely staying somewhere for more than a couple years. They certainly aren't getting insider emails, lol.

I don't like driving them personally but they are pretty nice for being lower priced, they get it done.
The engineering is legit.

I like trucks, vans, and heavy equipment. But sometimes I drive one of the Outbacks to give somebody a break from driving and it isn't bad, actually nice. I used to drive the one that just got retired at about 100mph for a 20 mile stretch every few weeks, probably didn't help with its longevity lol.
