I'd say Jacare earned his title shot after going 5-0 in the UFC and having a solid record coming out of StrikeForce.

Being 24-4 with only 4 decisions is impressive. He's a former Strikeforce champ and has 4 POTN bonuses in the UFC. Pretty solid resume imo.

Luke should've fought him instead of Bisping. Not sure exactly why that didn't happen but I remember at the presser when Mike was doing doing his usual kitty party ("you chose me because you think I'm easy!..") Luke replied something like "no no, the alligator don't speak english". There may be other factor but I don't remember.
