As long as economy climbs I'm sure China will work on becoming more tourist friendly and adopt more courteous but right now it's pretty gross.
The weirdness is that even in very poor countries, when people become middle class, they tend to adopt more manners and think more how they come off to others but China you still see them shitting in the street and spitting at the dinner table and not giving a shit if people look at them in disgust. Just very unsettling.
I assume this not caring about how they look as a culture transpired during the Mao time because in history, China used to be the place people admired them for many things. In Korean culture we care a lot about looking like ignorant or fools and people laughing at us. At one time China was probably very similar but somehow after Mao people stopped giving a shit. I don't know but even us Koreans find this peculiar about Chinese.
