Im convinced it's the breakfast for dinner conglomerate that have ruined it for the rest of us. Also, those assholes who drop a sunny egg on their burger all willy nilly as if there were no tommorrow.

Eggs are a cheap staple food. When you have poor economic times people switch to cheaper sources of food and eggs get an uplift... Prices will rise to meet demand, then supply will backfill that demand and prices will lower back down, but lots can influence this... Maybe the industry as a whole predicts economy will improve and demand will go back down so they don't increase supply too much.
also bird flu has been a huge impact on eggs as well between deaths and culling
