Chael Sonnen's daughter has apparently passed away

Chael Sonnen's daughter was born 10 weeks premature last week, Sonnen informed MMA Fighting.

According to doctors, Sonnen's wife, Brittany, contracted listeria, which caused the early birth. The illness has been passed along to their daughter, as well.

The Center for Disease Control describes listeria as "a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes."

Sonnen is currently unsure how his wife contracted the disease. He has retained the law firm Flesher Schaff & Schroeder Inc. to investigate whether she consumed contaminated food, and they have already reached out to the CDC and FDA on behalf of the Sonnen family.

"She's in a battle and we are prepared to fight," Sonnen said.

My sister and I were 8 month preemies too, had to stay in Houston for 2 or 3 weeks. I hope 7 1/2 isn't enough to make a huge difference :/

My son was 7.5 months and weighed 2.5 lbs at birth. They can do some amazing things with medicine. Hopefully her lungs were good and she doesn't have breathing problems. Saw some horrible shit and horrible people that should have been shot for what they did to their babies in the NICU.

mine was just a month, and a week early, and they said the bones in his ears may not have developed. i couldn't imagine what they're going to go through. i hope she makes it out healthy. that's so sad.

I just listened to this podcast (my earlier post was referring to last weeks podcast)......this sucks and must have been/is traumatic.......the doctor used the phrase "I'm not reccomending we end support" out of the blue......

Man, this is both scary and sad. Hope lil Sonnen makes it through and develops into a healthy child.

Our son wasn't premature, but he did have to spend about two weeks in NICU (he was jaundiced pretty bad). It is incredibly stressful, and it is tough to witness the little ones you see in the NICU.
