Child’s Pablo Escobar Halloween costume deemed ‘inappropriate’ by social media users

A FACEBOOK video of a toddler dressed up for Halloween has sparked controversy after thousands of viewers deemed it inappropriate.

In the clip the young boy can be seen dressed up as notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, with hair parted to one side, a moustache and brightly-patterned shirt.

Escobar was known, before his death at the age of 44, as “The King of Cocaine” and history’s richest criminal, supplying close to 80 per cent of smuggled cocaine to the US.

The Facebook video, shared by user ‘Break’, has been viewed more than 5 million times since being uploaded.


While some people found the outfit funny, others were less amused to see someone making light of such a dangerous figure.

“Pablo Escobar is more than the king of coke. He is also the creator of narco terrorism which claimed the life of thousands of innocent people. Including little kids like this one”, one Facebook user wrote.

“Lol u lot are idiots it's a child in a costume. The juxtaposition of him being a baby and being a drug dealer its what’s funny. It would have been equally as funny if he was dressed as ANY recognisable adult character. Lol u need to chill and find something better to moan about,” another wrote.

I absolutely love reading about gangsters and history of that sorta shit. It's fascinating stuff to me, the documentaries, blah blah.. you guys know this, we had some good threads on it back in the day.. and although I think the costume is cool, I really do see the argument against it in some ways.

Not exactly the costume itself, but the glorification of certain figures on a child. I think it is sort of a weird conundrum. Pablo killed a lot of innocent people, literally blew up an entire commercial airliner with 100+ innocent humans on it.

It's just we're detached from it because 1) we are not from Colombia, 2) Narcos is a cool TV show and 3) it was decades ago now

Imagine in Japan or something they came out with a show about Bin Laden or some other 9/11 involved guy. And it was fact based and played out like a real drama, had characters etc, and their end game was pulling of 9/11 or some shit. And then the people in Japan loved the show, wore t shirts with Osama on them, had kids dress up like him, etc

Just another way of thinking of things.

I don't really care though, the costume certainly doesn't offend me, it's just I get it.. normally I'd call whiney, but like I mentioned it's not even about the costume itself, just a reflection on how really bad people who do really bad things can end up being sort of cult like anti heroes due to ways they are portrayed in film and whatnot.

I live Europe. Dressing a kid as Hitler wouldn't offend me. Dressing them as the IRA wouldn't offend me. It's just a kid's costume.
