Britain did in WW1.

Ruined them financially and Germany wanted nothing to do with them. They entered because they had guaranteed Belgium's Sovereignty.
No. They did it to protect themselves from a future threat.

When shit hits the fan in your own backyard like it did in the Austro-Hungarian empire, you can't just sit on the sidelines and watch.

Britain did not need to get involved in the war in the way they did. Britain is an island nation with, at the time, the greatest navy. Think about it.

Great idea, let's everyone shit on America and all of the brave men and women who lost their lives during war time because you don't agree with politics.

He is correct though, they did it to remain a big power themselves, they were scared of one mainland-nation getting to strong.

Also, the question was if it was the right thing to do. As if Britain was what - morally superior or something at that point? Or what are you saying? They wanted Belgium to be a small nation not in control by any big power. They entered the war for their own interests.

Keep this up and we will never let you join the commonwealth you you'll never be allowed to add the Union Jack to your flag
Hawaii already has it, and the rest of the states actually fought and died to ge rid of it.

I know that probably sounds strange to an Australian because your country is only like 23 years old, but just trust me.

Firstly, no one here has "shit on the brave men and women who lost their lives during war time" Secondly, if someone wants to talk about other nations like they're insignificant, there should probably be some expected backlash. You've got nothing to be bent out of shape about.

The rest of the world's reaction when America intervenes:

"Fucking imperialists, get the fuck out of ______________"

The rest of the world when America doesn't intervene:

"Why isn't the United States doing something about this!!??"

If Britain were looking after their own interests then they would have left France and Russia to fight Germany and then pulled a U.S style stunt at the last moment.

Well yes and a lot of French resources went into getting rid of it too IIRC

So Hawaii has it, maybe next step is adding it to California's Banana republic flag yes?

Im well aware of that eg The Indian and Canadian flags but the Americans need to work towards adding it to theirs as a sign of respect and subservience
I personally think Queen Elizabeth should bow to Obama when they meet.

I mean, it's a more accurate portrayal of our "special relationship".

I'm not denying that the British didsome seriously horrible shit during their reign. Particularly in parts of Africa but the majority of the Rmpire was based on trade. If you look at 90% of the places they went, they left them in a far better state.

The U.S however, are leaving perfectly stable cities in ruins.

Britain thought the war would be over in a couple of weeks, they wanted to make it quick, as did the Germans btw. and both were wrong.

That's funny because I'm certain if the Queen ran for president against Barack Hussain Obama she'd win by a landslide.

I don't know how this thread got off topic, but I must say, there is a lot of disrespect being shown to the back to back world war champs.

In hindsight, the U.S should have helped our traditional ally the Brits out sooner in WW2.

But we have to keep in mind that America was very isolationist at the time. Something like 75% of the population was against intervention in what was thought of as a European problem.

Plus there was no NATO or anything like that at the time.

FDR did the most he could I think in the circumstances before Pearl Harbor.

Massive amounts of war material sent to the Russians and England. The U.S was even escorting convoys as well.

The one thing that saved England was their invention and early use of the radar and the bravery and talent of their pilots during the blitz.

Germany's lack of landing craft helped too.

I think England could have possibly survived by just kind of holding off on the sidelines and watching Germany and Russia slug it out and then go back in when the time was right.
