Straw man.

The topic of whether or not police officers who kill black people while on the job should be fired is irrelevant to this case. We don't even have to go into how the examples of police officers not being fired for killing black people were either never charged or found not guilty.

The fact is, he was on the job, he was being recorded, and he should have known better than to say something so stupid. It doesn't matter that he was clearly joking or that he didn't really mean what he was saying.

As a law enforcement officer, he should have shown better judgment, he should have kept his composure, and he should have just said something like "I'm not going to shoot you for picking up your phone."

But he didn't. He dun goofed. I personally don't think that he should have been fired for it (rather just disciplined), but in the current social climate, I can understand his chief's/department's decision to fire him.

Hopefully he learns from his mistake, gets a job as a police officer somewhere else (if that's what he wants), and shows better judgment in the future.
