Nearly 15,000 people who attended a dental conference in Vancouver in early March have been told to self-isolate immediately by B.C.'s provincial health officer who said multiple cases of coronavirus have been traced to the event.

On Monday, Dr. Bonnie Henry said 30 additional cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in B.C. since Saturday, bringing the total in the province to 103.

Henry said at least four of those new cases are related to an infected person who attended the Pacific Dental Conference, held at the Vancouver Convention Centre March 5 to 7.

Henry said cases of COVID-19 identified in other areas of the country have also been traced back to the Vancouver conference.

My wife bought another $300 in groceries online via Walmart last night. They were out of 13 items but we managed to get 9 pounds of burger, 5 pounds of flank steak, 2 roasts, salmon fillets, and a bunch of non perishable shit. We should be able to ride this out thru Mid May without too much problem, but it sucks. Really sucks.

People are more dangerous than the disease. The effects of the disease will be magnified if people don't chill out.

All these curfews and restrictions remind me of what I was taught about the USSR in the 80's.

Folks at my job (power plant) are hearing that we will be getting "papers" to show the police to prove we are essential employees heading to work, like fucking East Berlin. WTH?

They just passed a restriction in my city on alcohol sales between midnight and 8am.

Except this is temporary and it's important.
If you don't do this, 15 times as many people will die unnecessarily. Those aren't imaginary numbers but the actual reality between areas that follow this and those that did not.
This could be a temporary slowdown and then we start recovering. Or it could be an absolute shit show.

Please don't have me and people like me have to choose who gets a ventilator. That will traumatize me for the rest of my life. And somebody will die. And that will be repeated thousands of times over.
And all it takes to stop that is eating in, washing your hands, and watching Netflix for a few weeks.

You're saying all this like I have a choice. These are executive laws enacted locally by my Governor and Mayor. Its nothing to me. I am quarantined at work a few times every year during hurricane season. My point is that the reality of our current state of affairs (however temporary) reminds me of a few pages from my junior high school history books.

I'm not saying it like you have a choice. I'm saying it like you have a choice to recognize the very difference in context.
It is the context that makes it very different. The curfews that exist under an authoritarian state exist to enslave the population and root out those opposed to the state itself. The curfews that exist after every hurricane on the gulf coast, where I grew up, exists to stop looters from emptying out my house because I'm not home yet.
The harm of going against reviolating the curfew of authoritarian state is to buck and harm the state. The harm of going against and violating this curfew is to buck and harm your neighbors and yourself and every tangible way possible.

I'm simply pointing out that these are real different context And only a few pages back is there somebody close to the White House screaming about Soros and these lockdowns needing to be revolted against. We should all recognize the context differences clearly where that kind of thinking is one step away because indeed in an authoritarian state one should revolt.
