To the surprise of nobody, it seems good old Texas has been fudging its coronavirus death tally by a substantial margin. Excess deaths for Feb/May were triple the reported coronavirus tally.

NZ is no longer Covid-19 free.
We have had 2 new cases intercepted at the border. Both coming in from UK, and both cases are related.

Both cases are in isolation/quarantine.

Republican congressman who just announced he has the coronavirus refused to wear a face mask on the House floor 2 weeks ago
  • Rep. Tom Rice, a South Carolina Republican, announced on Monday that he, his wife, and his son had been infected with the coronavirus.
  • But just two weeks ago, Rice appeared on the House floor in Washington without a face covering.
  • The conservative congressman said he was able to maintain 6 feet of distance from everyone on Capitol Hill and didn't need to wear a mask.
  • Rice said he came down with relatively mild symptoms of the virus on June 7 and that his son suffered from "a high fever and really bad cough."

In theory, there shouldn't be a problem whatsoever with bringing people back to quarantine. In practice, as my retarded state proved, you can end up completely fucking the quarantine up and spreading coronavirus everywhere anyway.

What's most confusing to me is why people are pretending that containment is a tenable course.

Is it it a tenable course long-term? No. But if effective treatments/vaccines emerge, then it will prove to be the much smarter decision.

It's like a 5-round championship fight and we've just finished round 3. The Swedish herd immunity approach might ultimately stage a comeback and win, but right now New Zealand is up 3 rounds and headed for a decision.

Kiwis can go to bars and shops without even the slightest worry right now. That will do wonders for the domestic economy. Sweden has proven that a relaxed approach doesn't work, because your economy still gets fucked and it delays your ability to open up properly.

'Wave' propaganda has been very effective in getting people back to the stores in the US. But watch what happens if they cut off the stimulus.

A Miami Herald analysis of public and non-public COVID-19 data found that as of June 3, new cases in the state had consistently been trending up since mid-May and the trends could not be attributed solely to increases in testing, which had been inconsistent and sometimes declining during that period.

And as bars, gyms, vacation rentals and movie theaters reopened at partial capacity in all but three South Florida counties, the number and rate of new COVID-19 cases were rising statewide — a troubling indicator that the disease
could be spreading more quickly.

Fortunately I live in one of the three Florida counties that has not allowed bars to reopen. I can't even imagine how much worse it would be if my area, containing the three most populated counties in the state, had allowed bars to reopen like the rest of Florida.
