Coronavirus, do your thing.

This is why I've been ranting about herd immunity like a little bitch. The media has concocted a narrative that 'herd immunity' = cases slowing down because so many have already been infected. But somehow people have got into their heads that 10,000 cases = sky is falling, 5,000 cases = let's party. It's retarded.

A relative slowing is good for hospitals to deal with caseloads, but at an individual level, the drop in cases really means jack shit for you because any lower risk of general community spread is cancelled out if you start engaging in more risky activities because of it.

Florida had a 5% positivity rate in early May. But it wasn't sustained for two weeks (as the WHO recommends) before we started re-opening. And the world saw what happened.

Now we're fighting to get back down to 5%. We were at 15-20% in early/mid July (in places like Miami-Dade County it was as high as 30%). Yesterday we were down to 7.79%. Our leaders sound like they're committed to not reopening before we hit the 5% for two weeks benchmark, so hopefully we don't go all Florida and fuck it up again.

In a June interview hosted by the Hoover Institution, Dr. Atlas said that despite criticism of the president for not listening to health experts, Mr. Trump had in fact relied too much on those experts. He said the U.S. had imposed too severe restrictions by directing states to lock down and schools and businesses to close. “What we’ve done here, it’s going to take many years to recover from this,” he said.

But he also praised the Trump administration’s response, saying “there’s very little that could have been done in a realistic way, to me, given that we were blindsided, better.”

Oh, I can see how that happens, but fuck that's terrible. The good news is Ms Jones got her 15 minutes of fame, and apparently that's what really matters.
