Dada 5000's family 'appalled' at 'overtly racist' comments made by Joe Rogan

After UFC commentator Joe Rogan made various deeply critical remarks regarding the fight between Kimbo Slice and Dada 5000, Dada's family and friends have something to say.

 TWEET SHARE (1670) PIN
The family of Dada 5000 (real name Dhafir Harris) have issued a statement in response to Joe Rogan's comments mocking Dada5000.

The statement reads as follows:

"The Harris Family is appalled at the overtly racist and offensive comments directed at Dada 5000 by Joe Rogan who said in an interview that Dada's heart was filled with "cheeseburgers, fried chicken, and orange soda", mocking the family's statement issued the previous day.

"We don't recall Mr. Rogan ever challenging anyone with this amount of vitriol and ignorant racial overtones, all directed to a man who is still hospitalized.

"For the record, Dada lost 40lbs over course of 3 1/2 months while in training camp where he had a boxing coach an MMA coach, and a nutritionist hired by his team. As fight week approached Dada was only 2-3 pounds over fight weight. He took this fight very seriously as evidenced by his gutsy performance. Mocking Dada 5000 with hurtful and racist comments is despicable and divisive and has no place in the sport of mixed martial arts or in our society."

Clearly, Harris and those close to him are more than disturbed by the very critical comments made on the Fight Companion edition of his Joe Rogan Experience podcast. Harris was hospitalized due to renal failure and dehydration after his loss.

We have provided an image of the post itself as well:

The way things are going, it's not unreasonable to expect Rogan to respond in kind regarding this matter.

So he only cut 2 or 3 lbs to make 265? I was under the impression he cut 40 lbs in a week, leading to him to almost die after 1 minute into the fight. Unless I read that wrong. Anyways, doubt Rogan loses any sleep over this. Probably take a bong rip and chuckle to himself while reading angry Internet comments.

Cheeseburgers are enjoyed by all Americans regardless of race.

Fried chicken is stereotypically linked to the black community but is probably eaten by crackers just as much.

Orange soda, grape soda, and fruit punch soda Fanta would not exist if not for the black community.

I don't think JR's comments were racist as far as intent goes, but he probably should have been more careful with his words.

Maybe he thought Dada was Kel all grown up?

Seriously though, I'm not African American and I think that all of those things are tasty. Bad for you, but tasty. *shrug*

It is kind of racist. But Rogan is a comic so he's allowed to say whatever he wants.

Put it this way, would he have used those food items if he was sat in front of Rampage Jackson or Daniel Cormier? Naw. Which is ironic giving how much whining Rogan does about keyboard warriors.

I doubt Rogan had malicious intent and i think he was just trying to get laughs. To try to deny that someone could consider it racist seems ignorant to me. It's not a big deal to me either way. Add ignorance to over sensitivity and you'll likely get a conflict.

Can't blame people for getting over sensitive when their family member's still in the hospital, though.

While Dada should've been in better shape for a fight of this magnitude, Rogan should know better, especially after the Cyborg/dick fiasco. At least he stopped short of watermelon.

Dada's family has no one to blame but Dada.

I get the personal responsibility angle you're trying to play, but doesn't sound like Dada's family were blaming anyone for anything except stupid comments that are borderline racist.

Besides, personal responsibility works both ways. If Brogan gets the same kind of backlash he got about they Cyborg comments, he has no one to blame but himself.
