I thought I didn't have the greatest dad. I was always envious of my friends and how much time and resources their dads spent on them. Yeah, he could've done more but when he finally retired I got little sparks of advice like this.

Don't feel like the lone ranger. My dad left us when I was three. I didn't talk to him until I was 51...a month before he passed away. He was a violent drunk when I was a kid, and I became a prideful stubborn vindictive adult who couldn't let go of a grudge. Not a good recipe. Be thankful you're your own man, defined by your own character, striving to be better than your dad was...and try not to look back w/ regrets.

Dad died when I was in elementary school. Always wondered how different I'd be not being raised by just a single mom. We all need the love of a momma and the discipline of a father. Thank God I never got into drugs or a life of crime...

My mom died when I was 2, my father battled that till the day he died, he made mistakes but he loved me till the end and tried making amends for his mistakes his last 20 years. I understood though and we finally found peace together.

Funny story, I bought my dad a truck and he would always grab a coffee at the local corner store with his buddy roy and they would sit in the truck and just shoot the shit. It was a green silverado.

So I was on patrol one morning and saw them sitting enjoying their coffee, I pulled up next to them.

Hello my boy, hello daddy-o, what are you guys up to. Not much son, just drinking coffee. Well enjoy, just wanted to give you a heads up we have had reports of two gay guys sitting in a green truck in the area propositioning people. I'm going to go look for them but if you see anyone matching the description, give me a call and I left.

Dad talked about that till the day he died and laughed every time. Miss you old man.

Damn brother. All joking aside. You are a good man. Your father did a good job. On a side note. I lost my mom at 19. I think about all the things she missed out on. I feel ya kvr28 @kvr28 .
