The main card of UFC 225 was opened up with a welterweight matchup between CM Punk and Mike Jackson. Both 0-1 entering the contest, it was Jackson who ended up with a unanimous decision win, scoring his first victory at the professional level.

The manner in which he won, however, did not please UFC president Dana White. During the post-fight press conference, the outspoken company executive expressed his dissatisfaction with how “The Truth” seemingly did not go for the finish.

CHICAGO — Mike Jackson might have beaten CM Punk handily Sunday night. But Dana White sure didn’t consider Jackson a winner.

The UFC president went off on Jackson’s performance against the former WWE star in the UFC 225 post-fight press conference Saturday night here at United Center. White was not pleased by some of Jackson’s apparent showboating and him not trying to finish CM Punk when he seemingly had the opportunity.

“Michael Jackson, I’m not happy with,” White said. “This guy was acting like a goofball tonight. You get this opportunity to fight CM Punk and you’re doing like bolo punches to the body on top? Never looked like he was trying to finish the fight ever, right? Looked like he could have finished the fight a few times. Never tried. I don’t know what that guy did for a living before we gave him this shot, but whatever it was he needs to go back and do that again. He’s 0-2 as far as I’m concerned.”

That was a bad miscalculation by Mike Jackson. I think he was embarrassed because everyone was calling him “a can”, so he thought by showboating he could show that he was on another level than CM Punk. The problem is that he’s not very good and by the time he got cracked a couple times, and got taken down, no matter what he did it just looked like a bad fighter gloating while beating up a worse fighter.

Dana can be a jackass, but I was happy to hear him admit that he regretted not putting that fight on the FightPass prelims.

I gotta agree with Dana there - this should've never been a main card fight. Maybe I'm wrong, but after the first fight I can't imagine CM Punk helped the PPV #s that much. Overeem, or anyone else on the card really, deserved that spot more than Punk or Jackson.

That was a rookie fight and wasn't the best way to start the main card IMO. Oh well, overall I thought it was a fun night of fights.

Cm punk fought with heart and limited skill.he did better than i thought he would. Jackson fought with no budo no heart .he should have been able to finish a gassed cm punk but chose not to. For an amateur MMA fighter full time journalist he owned Punk and clowned him while doing it.
I really can't fault the guy. Dana got exactly what he asked for. An amateur fighter with an 0-1 record
with practically zero limelight or center stage experience.

Honest effort, we saw that with Brooks. We all knew the level of fighting would be low but FFS you gotta give it your all. MJ was cruising. Imo he took the "I didn't destroy him like I thought I would early so I'll pretend this is super easy and coast to a lame UD" approach.

Yep my thoughts too. Fun exhibition fights are cool every now and again but
put them where they belong. This was just a shade above a Celebrity Boxing match
and Egg put it on a 65 dollar PPV main.
