The survey found 71% of Americans agreed Chauvin was guilty, and most Americans surveyed followed at least some coverage of the three-week trial. When participants were identified by political affiliation, Democrats strongly concurred, at 85%, with Republicans at 55% and independents at 71%. The results were based on an online survey of 1,000 American adults from all states.

So 45% of Republicans are all good with a cop kneeling on a guy's neck for 9 minutes?

More than half of respondents – 54% – said they believed "law and order is the most important thing to ensure, even if it means limiting peaceful protests." That answer soared to 73% among Republicans and ticked down to 43% among Democrats. Independents were at exactly half. On the flip side, 38% said the right to protest is paramount, even if violent incidents result, with 53% of Democrats, 36% of independents and 22% of Republicans agreeing.

Law and Order more important than a constitutionally protected right?

I've not figured out my final thoughts on the issue, but the pandemic and stuff like this has really made me consider how much people really want a free society and also the weaknesses in human nature that make having a free society difficult and possibly dangerous.
Here you see clearly that a huge portion of the population value authoritarian safety over freedom, while chanting about the latter. It's all lip service.

It is, I think the problem is people don't truly understand that freedom can be uncomfortable at times because people may do things you don't like or agree with, but if they aren't hurting anyone it's none of their business, imo.

And yes, I know this is extremely over simplified but I believe my point comes across.

Democracy and individual freedoms are overrated.

“When people say, ‘Oh, ask the people!’, it’s childish rubbish ... They say people can think for themselves? Do you honestly believe that the chap who can’t pass primary six knows the consequences of his choice when he answers a question viscerally on language, culture and religion? ... we would starve, we would have race riots. We would disintegrate.”

— Quoted in Lee Kuan Yew: The Man and His Ideas, 1998

take this with a grain of salt, because its hearsay

but i heard that the florida governor passed a law so that if there is a rally that becomes violent or has a death or something ... anyone at that rally can be charged with a felony

to me, that law is faaar over-reaching as it effectively is a law against free-speech and protesting since its not worth the risk to go to anything because you could be charged with a felony for something someone else does :(

The department of defense conducted a study and found that a person with an IQ less than 83 likely did not have the mental capacity to participate in any of the needed jobs in the US military. Just about 10% of The US population is under that IQ level. Assuming that the US military Jobs are not significantly more cognitively skilled than the at large society, this suggest that almost 10% of the population do not have the mental capacity to participate in a modern society at the most basic levels. I think this reality, which I admit feels a bit elitist to even talk about, runs head first into modern social media and other technologies that flatten the communication hierarchy. We are easily manipulated and fall back to basic hierarchies of need including safety when under threat. And those with the least knowledge on a subject now have more access than ever before to lead and influence those subjects.

The white, christian male has had it worse than anyone! - @Cody
My brother in law is a fucking turnip. A few months ago he was all drunk and he said “This Black Lives Matter shit is crazy! I honestly feel like the victim for having to listen to all this shit!” Then he went on a rant about how he “doesn’t even see colour”. Meanwhile everyone in the room knows he can’t get a beer past a 6 pack without saying something racially fucked up.

It’s why I hate when Canadians get all condescending and superior about MAGA, and how messed up things are in the states. It’s here too, it just hasn’t been mobilized in the same way yet. My in-laws would easily be MACA if it was properly marketed to them, and they watched enough YouTube.
