"I felt like him bringing me on to The Ultimate Fighter was a trap," Dillashaw said on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour.

The McGregor-Faber TUF season was filmed when the feud between Faber and former Alpha Male coach Duane Ludwig was public, but Dillashaw, who ultimately joined Ludwig and Colorado's Elevation team, was still in the TAM fold. By the time the season aired, the problems between Faber and Dillashaw had become a public drama and they parted ways.

Things were exacerbated on an infamous TUF episode in which McGregor confronted Dillashaw and called him "a little snake in the grass" whom Faber shouldn't trust.

"[It was] a way for him and Conor to bash on me for going to a different gym," Dillashaw said. "[Faber] bashing me is a way to stay relevant, so the media had something to talk about other than his horrible fights."

For his part, Dillashaw doesn't understand why Faber, who challenges Cruz for the bantamweight title in a trilogy fight at UFC 199, continues to talk about him, long after he's departed the gym.

"This is very uncharacteristic of him," Dillashaw said. "I've never seen him like this, especially to ruin a friendship over me liking a coach. Guys cross train all the time. That's what Alpha Male's known for, guys have open doors to come in all the time. They don't call any of those guys traitors."

I don't get why t.j. gets shit on for wanting to train where he feels it will best serve his career.

Cause bro's before ho's man! Forgetting the fact that this is pro sports not high school, it's bush league mentality that drives me nuts.

Hmm. I feel you homie.

Can anyone give a reasonable and logical answer that might sway opinion?

Wow, when this started I didn't see it going all the way to where they are now. I thought it might cause some tension, maybe TJ loses to Cruz and fires Ludwig or something.. not complete separation and a bunch of escalating shit talk.

How about if Faber loses to Cruz and Frankie doesn't get Conor at 200, Frankie goes down to 135 to face Cruz for the title. That would leave room for TJ vs Faber to get this shit over with (because it's gotta happen now), and if TJ wins he gets whoever won between Frankie and Cruz? I LIKE THAT.

It's cool for him to do what's right for him, but he should have given his mentor/friend a heads up.

He owed him that much.

He knew he was going to switch camps, but fronted to faber/team that he wasn't.

Faber trusted his friends word at face value, even though it was evident to everyone else, especially Conor, the dillasnake had other plans.

I agree with you, but I'll give it a shot.

Faber really did groom TJ to the top. He "discovered" him and kinda saw him through his career. He then brings in Duane, who TJ really meshes with but who Faber ultimately develops a beef with. TJ finally wins the UFC title (a first for Alpha Male if I remember correctly). Duane bounces, and talks major shit about Alpha Male and Faber in particular. After all that came out and Faber (supposedly TJ's best friend) and Duane are bashing each other publicly, TJ, a UFC champion, leaves Faber's camp with no warning and does so with some not-so-kind words about the camp.

So Faber brought a guy up who ended up being his best friend. As soon as the to the top, and in a position where he can start to return the supposed favors that Faber did for him, he bounces to train with a guy who has been bashing Faber and his former teammates/camp in the press for weeks.

While I agree with the people who are here saying that TJ isn't an asshole for wanting to train where he feels is best for his career, I can see how Faber would be at least a little salty about the situation.

cause people for the most part blindly agree or say word for word what Conor says.

I was rooting for Cruz and celebrated when he won, but TJ will win the rematch unless he recklessly attacks again(fishing for the K.O). Cruz is is great in interviews and is very knowledgeable but. TJ's potential for growth in terms of fighting is higher than Cruz at the moment.

going to train with Ludwig > staying at Alpha Male where people don't know who the coach is. Also is not like Faber is a Matt Hume level coach.

Didn't he say beforehand he was planning to cross train, and did exactly that? Then when Bang made a new gym, did he not tell his team he was leaving? I don't understand why he would need to tell them weeks in advance as in another occupation. Don't the fans realize how petty most people are? If he stays after he puts in notice, do you really see that going well for him?

At best, he gets ignored, at worst he gets green lit.

I thought TJ was still with bang at alpha.

I thought the issue was TJ left alpha to become the face of the new gym and get paid.

I thought Bang isn't owner of the gym. I thought bang is just following TJ to a new gym that opened up that was using TJ as the anchor to get people to train there.
I also though faber was totally cool with TJ and bang cross training.

Excuse my ignorance. You're right, it's not bang's gym. Tj asked if he could come along after I fact checked myself.

Seems as if t.j. wanted it to be an amicable split via this article:
T.J. Dillashaw leaving Team Alpha Male, still working with Ludwig

Seems like sour grapes from where I stand though on the part of TAM.

Maybe teaching kickboxing classes for a wage, isn't the best thing for a world champ and TJ knew it himself, that's Faber's fault. Faber couldn't work with a guy who was clearly a major advantage to his team, that's his fault too. Uriah is at fault here the only part he got right was the spin.

Edit- I wouldn't be surprised if TJ was set up on TUF either.

Apparently, t.j. is being paid to train at elevation. That's a better deal imo.

I accidentally left that detail out myself, but TJ wouldn't have gone to Elevation if Bang wasn't also in Colorado. It is still essentially him leaving Faber for Duane, though he will actually be getting paid to train at MP with Elevation.

From what I remember, TJ was scheduled to fight Cruz and before that Bang and Alpha Male has split. Then TJ was deciding to stay or leave(I really don't see how that's an option to be honest). It's a proven fact everybody at Alpha Male had improved their striking with Bang. Ludwig or Faber as coach doesn't seem hard at all.

TJ is a solid wrestler it made no sense to be trained by Faber or Kampan, it was a mess from what I've heard sometimes they didn't know who the strikin coach was. I also heard a lot of "the sparring partners at Alpha Male" is something TJ is gonna miss. There is already a great example in Mighty Mouse, the talent and coach is way more important than quality sparring partners, although having great sparring partners doesn't hurt.

TJ went to Colorado to represent the Muscle Pharm gym, but come on we all know if Bangs gym wasn't close by TJ wouldn't have gone there. Who cornered TJ in the Cruz fight? Who had a great relationship as coach with TJ in Sacramento?

I personally believe had Mendes and Bang been working full time during the Aldo/Mendes 2 fight he would have been the champ. Supposedly they were training off and on, while Bang was relocating himself in Colorado.

Exactly, as if Uriah couldn't afford to pay him to train, he could. TAM sounds to me like a lot of adventure centre where they pay peanuts and go hard sell on the lifestyle man it's a borderline culty crock of shit.
