What is DJ doing technically that's so different from GSP that people can say his in-ring performances are boring? I loved GSP, but I found him 10x more boring than Mighty Mouse, with only a handful of exceptions.
I do think GSP having much more notable opponents made it easier to appreciate what was going on but I really don't think much else. Also I think the story lines tie in directly to the fight itself. A sub par fight between two major figures in MMA with a big build up will probably be more fun to watch and easier to keep people in their seats to the end as opposed to a late replacement main event with one super dominant guy against another that not too many recognize.
If you personally prefer to watch DJ that's awesome. If you were to be calling the fight or writing an article saying those who didn't have the same opinion aren't fans then that's where I'd take issue because its ridiculous.
