From what I've seen is the way the laws have been imposed have been disproportionately affected black people, by design of the republicans, that's racist. The idea behind it is solid and works fine in other countries where they give everyone a free voter ID.
Our voter IDs are free.
Blacks are less likely to have ID or transportation. So the lack of transportation to get an ID impacts them.
There's nothing in the law targeting them. It's the argument that ID voter fraud is less prevalent than the number of people that can't vote due to lack of identification. Which is probably true at the federal level.
I used to support no voter ID. Once I started looking into smaller races and state-level races, you see that the lack of voter ID can have significant impacts.
So how many local and state level elections are we willing to compromise in order to not disenfranchise people at the national level because they don't have identification?
How many people don't get to vote because we have a cumbersome registration process instead of Simply Having a voter ID?
Lots of people draw their own conclusions.
I'm in Texas with a special affinity for a rural populations that are seriously impacted if we enact a voter ID law. Those are old white people. They likely are voting Trump. I still support voter ID.
