100% it happens all the fucking time.

Only fault I see anywhere is crew not opening the gate fast enough to let his corner in to deal with him, ref merely controls him until that point because obviously he wasn't registering the instructions.
I've gone out and came to in the middle of a fight, all you know is that you are in a fight.. you don't know why or who so you just grab the guy grabbing you.

Happens alot.

I don't think he was putting much squeeze into it once he knew he had him, just riding it. Fighter didn't crumple and wasn't out when released.

What's the refs other options here? Walk me through it from the moment the he ended the fight?

Enough to remind him you're there, when necessary.

I've seen refs 3 piece fighters in the same situation, imo because they didn't have the tools to control the fighter in another way, practical or emotional.

As someone said above, thats actually the ref I'd want if it was me or a teammate.
