If his knockout loss to Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 85 wasn’t bad enough, Frank Mir has been notified of a potential anti-doping violation.

The UFC released a statement saying the promotion, as well as Mir (18-11 MMA, 16-11 UFC), had been notified the former heavyweight champion’s post-fight sample had been flagged.

“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Frank Mir of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an in-competition sample collected the day of his fight on March 20, 2016 in Brisbane, Australia,” the statement read.

Frank Mir says he never took any performance-enhancing drugs and did not take what came back in his positive drug test.

Mir, 36, has never before tested positive in 15 years with the UFC, however he was a user of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) with a therapeutic usage exemption (TUE) before TRT was banned by athletic commissions in 2014.

USADA does not release the name of the substance a fighter tests positive for unless the fighter willingly discusses it publicly.

Here is Mir's full statement:

To all my fans and supporters,

I recently been notified by USADA that the test I took on the night of the fight came back for a substance that I did not take. I don't know how that is possible as I did not take any performance enhancing drugs (PED) to compete. I have never tested positive for a banned substance since joining the UFC and becoming a 2x champion. I ask all of you to hold judgement [sic] against me until all the facts have been revealed.

I want Mir to retire. He would make a great training coach. He has done enough for MMA, so there is no need to keep coming out there trying to prove something when he already has.

Commentating. That's what I would like to see him transition into, but he seems to be stubborn as a mule lol.

After he lost his position in the WEC commentating he doesn't seem to be into it. Never understood why they did that. He was great. I don't think he wants to commentate for a smaller org.

He would be great at that as well. He rubs some people the wrong way though. Vocalizing his knowledge of the sport in live events would be awesome if some get past the idea that he speaks a bit arrogantly. I personally don't think he does, but I see why some do.

Bummer! Hate when that happens.

"to compete." But he didn't say he didn't use them to train! LOL. Did Saul Goodman write this for Frank?

I have never tested positive for a banned substance since joining the UFC
Signed, Lance Armstrong.

If this comes back at contaminated supplements, after the Romero deal, it's going to open up a whole new can of worms for USADA/UFC.

Anyway. Frank gets a PED pass. Lifetime Badass Exemption IMO.
I give them all a pass since that is what made this sport great. What I do complain about is when fighters talk shit about others getting caught, then get caught themselves.

Well after what happened with Romero, if anyone who gets caught doesn't just contaminate their own supplements then send them off to USADA then they are shooting themselves in the foot.

Im not very bright, but I think it's more complicated than that.
