This was the haul from picking off the ripe peppers from my "bansai" Serrano plant. For the size of that plant this is nuts. You may not be able to tell but that could be 50-75 peppers.

And that is the total haul for the day.

My passion fruit flowers developed into fruits in only 8-9 days. Obviously they need to mature and ripen but this is simply amazing to me.

Sauce tomatoes?

What do you make with them?

I think we have way too many Roma plants this year so I'm looking for ideas
Pico and sauce. I may try to make tomato soup as well. I’m going to blanch them quickly and peel the skin off and freeze them for the fall and winter.

If I’m really energetic I will try and can some too. Ever had pickled tomatoes? Does that exist? I’ll also give some to friends and family.

Rambo John J @Rambo John J what do you do with the ones you grow?
I don't grow many Romas. so this year will be a new thing.

We do grow tons of tomatoes, mostly used in canned Salsas and a batch or two of marinara sauce.
Dabbled in fermented taco sauces as well(very nice) last year but they didn't use tomatoes if I recall.

With all the Romas we will have to make some serious volume of sauce right from tomato, usually our tomato sauce is made from the leftover juice/liquid from prepping tomatoes for batch of salsa...we just cook down the watery liquid from processing matos until it is thicker and gets a bit sweet and tangy.

Update on the Roma’s… have about 50 tomato’s growing and about 100 more blossoms on the go. It’s hot as shit here right now so they are happy.

My 3 tomato plants outgrew their cages and have now formed a single blob plant. They are falling all over the place and it's pretty out of control. Since I planted them in a fabric container I can't do post stakes to build a support structure, so I'm just laying back and watching the shit show. Overall they are healthy, but I see issues with air flow so I doubt they will stay healthy for long. Meanwhile I'm spraying them for pests weekly and fertilizing regularly. can't wait for the first tomatoes since these are my two favorite varieties.

What are those in?
Whiskey barrels 27.5Wx17.5H. I put anywhere from 12-14 plugs into each one of them for high intensity growing. In cooler months I can do cut and come again and get 3-5 cuts from any given plant. In hot months like right now they are one and done.

7 gallon?
Gallon is an odd term, since it really means nothing when growing. Home depot buckets are 5 gallon, yet garden containers that are rated at 5 gallons are less than half that size. 2 and a 1/4, 2.2 cubic foot bags of soil fills them up before the soil settles.

I processed a whisky barrel and a half today using the 3 bucket method. Total harvest was almost 4 full grocery bags.

Basically 35 gallons if you use the cubic feet to gallon calculator.
Nice, Yummy lettuce
I run my bamboo mostly in 25 gallon plastic pots

The pots/plant roots not getting too hot is the real concern when potted gardening in my experience. All depends on climate, and yours being so temperate it can be real nice for large pots.

The whisky barrels used to be $40, but due to Biden the are $60 now. Really wish I would have bought a grip when the going was good, but no one had any idea shit was going to get this bad.
