So sort of interesting. To reference home schooling again. This is sort of how we do it. Half the point is to completely break the old mold, the way we were brought up in school. Kids like to play they dont like to sit and grind out 8 hours of work. The DOE model is to raise drones and so K-12 reflects that.
My wife and daughter basically just have fun every day. Many lessons they make into songs. For example they use the rhythm of the Frozen movie song to learn about the circulatory system. Math is presented in funny word problems. They go to the library 3-4 times per week and check out 20+ books. Currently my little one is really into frontier days type shit, so she is reading probably 50 books a week on the topic. They are fictional books of course, she is only 3rd grade. She spends 1-2 hours every night zipping around the neighborhood on one of those razor scooters. They put on music and create plays and dance. She has this hawaiian dress and pretends she is Moana and they took all this construction paper and made props out of toys and household items and made the ocean, sand, and forest on the kitchen floor and pretend they are stuck out at sea. They cook and clean. They make kinetic sand and goop, playdoh, and silly putty.
Most days all I can hear up there is them laughing.
Half the reason I was such a little shithead when I was a kid was I was smart and I was bored. I could do the work faster than most kids and then would just sit there. Over years it made me so bored and lucky me, I also started to fall in with the wrong crowd because the troublemaking they were doing was exciting.
The DOEs program was to force kids to not be kids but to sit there and do 1000 simple math problems, read irrelevant books, learn science in the most boring of ways "for safety", etc. Kids should be having fun and when they are having fun their brains are more open to picking up new information and retaining it.
So I guess my point is maybe its not all bad, perhaps this shows that your school is starting to think out of the box at least in some ways.
