I typically have trouble finding/making time to do work-in-progess posts. But this one is slow going and starting to take shape.

There’s a lot of time and raw material that’s gone into this already and we’re still not done with the sheath hardware.

The brass plates still have to get patinad and drilled out. Then the shoulder strap still has to be made.

More brass hardware for that. And then everything has to get riveted down.

As always, everything done by hand and eye.
Fuck, this one is nerve-wracking.
Mutherfucker it's about time.

I've been wondering if you were ever going to finish it.
It's not as big as I was expecting.

Nice job on the sheeth mate.
Do more of these.

Forging it took about 4-5hrs, I'd guess. I didn't really keep track.

In terms of accuracy, it meets the dimensions of the traditional ones in terms of length and width.

But the blade itself is more akin to a Gladius Hispaniensis which became more prevalent after the 2nd Punic War.

I chose to use that blade style because it's far nastier when stabbing. The tip tapers gently instead of having the radically cut angle, which aids in penetration.

If you put this tip down on your foot and release the handle, it'll go right through all on its own.

It would be awesome if we could time travel and give that to a soldier during that era, see what they think, and how it compares.
