Justice should be about the benefit to society.
  • Deterrent
  • Rehabilitation
  • Keeping high risk criminals off the streets
Arbitrary punishment for punishments sake is pointless.

The 10 days I spent in Cook County's finest correctional facility, in a 'dormitory fashion', 30 people iirc, one TV was always ESPN or the Pistons/Lakers finals and the other was on day time talk shows. At night time it switched over to movies which is the only reason I have watched all of LOTR.
Did you get your shit pushed in?

Unfortunately, for most crimes of passion or resulting from mental health struggles, deterrence isnt effective.

I'm agreeing with you and also pointing out the fact 'being tough on certain crimes' will not reduce the rate of offences.
Ah ok. Agreed. But they need to be punished so that others don't use it as an excuse.

What was the food like?
Horrible. Zoo animals wouldn't eat most of it. The chocolate cake was great though. I say that with zero sarcasm. I hope whoever was making it is now working in a high end restaurant.
