As with all things, American culture and language finds it's way over here.

Faggots is still a type of meatball, but it's very much recognised as a slang term for gay men too, and is thought of as offensive in the same way.

Fag for cigarette is still in fairly common use, I say fairly as smoking itself has been in decline since the smoking bans in many public and private spaces.

You still see faggots on the menu here and there, it used to be made with offal cuts so it was popular in poor areas and during WW2 as food was rationed.

These days it's more likely to be made with beef.
