If Khabib misses weight does Max still take the fight?
I suspect his coaches will tell him not too. Especially if Max comes in on weight. So I would say, No. The UFC would be infuriated at that point. Probably at Max and Khabib.

If this fight got scrapped the day before, Dana's head would explode.

If Max can utilize distance and sniper Khabib as he comes forward, this could get interesting.

He won't. He'll get taken down and smashed. I'll be surprised if he makes it out of the 1st due to taking this on such short notice.

Feb. 3rd - Max was in camp & in good shape... but got hurt (Link)
  • 46 days of inactivity in training later (or at the least it was less than optimal with a hurt ankle) (he described the injury was so bad that he "wouldn't wish it on anybody.)
March 20th - Max says he's just recently been "finally able to get back on the mat & run drills etc...." (Link) Still wasn't completely cleared of all his medical to fight & wasn't even sure if he would need surgery yet.
  • 12 days later
April 1st - Max takes fight vs. Khabib

I'd have a lot to say about Prime Max vs. Khabib... but I just don't see how we get Prime Max in this fight. Doesn't mean that Max can't do it... but it's a huge question with him just getting cleared to be on the mat like 2 weeks ago.... and that's after a month & a half of healing the ankle.

If Max does win... then he is without a doubt "THE FOOKING MAN." lol... no question about it. I just don't see it happening.

I would take it. Even less to lose. Plus take a big wedge of money to keep on the card. More money. More excuses in a good way.

And if you win surely he fights Conor. Proved what Conor talks about a lot.

So if max misses, somehow. Does khabib take the fight? Surely he dies. And Max should suffer no repercussions. Except not getting the belt

Too many factors are against Max in this fight.... And I hate the fact that the UFC may damage the reputation of their 145 lb champ by having him risk a blowout loss (due to lack of real preparation). This game is "what have you done for me LATELY?" and you're only as good as your last fight in the mind of many fans (and some "experts"), so if Max gets blitzed, than I guarantee when he defends his 145 title, he'll a co-main to another championship bout.

As to why I feel Max will lose, Khabib is one of the best, if not THE best wrestler in the UFC today.... Having zero time to prepare for an opponent like that is not a recipe for success. This week is about weight management, no hard contact, light drills, and media.... I don't think that Max will have adequate prep time for a specialist like Khabib. I'm picking Khabib via round two or three ref stoppage.

Hey you're one of our BJJ guys, who would you think has a better chance of subbing Khabib, Tony or Ortega? Feel free to post some TLDR shit.

I'll start by saying that both guys have tremendous BJJ, and they both possess the skill set to submit him, but that said, I would IMO say that Brian has the better chance. The reason being, even though the 10th Planet system has been shown to be a successful Jiu Jitsu system, the one issue I have (and I've seen in MMA) is that it requires you to start a lot with it's mission control set up on your back. We've seen both Tony, Ben Saunders (who is a buddy of mine), and other 10th Planet guys stay on their back in attempts to set this up.... With Khabib, we've seen that if you chose to remain on your back, he'll maul you, he's extremely strong, has great GnP, and rarely gets controlled in any position on the ground, so choosing to be there with him may be extremely detrimental to your health.

Brian has a more diverse BJJ game (again IMO, I'd love to see him and Tony in a BJJ match), yes he's great setting up triangles off his back, but he also head hunts guillotines a lot.... Now as great a wrestler as Khabib is, at times (when he starts to slow down), he shoots like a wrestler not concerned with submissions.... and that's how I think Ortega would get him.... Box on the feet, try to tire him out, and catch a guillotine on a shot.

Again, both guys have all the potential in the world to sub him, both guys can GET subbed by him (or mauled trying to use BJJ), but I'd give Brian the slight edge in the chance to catch Khabib.

100% Brian. Tony gets his neckties off of scrambles, there's no scrambling against Khabib. Like @Rhino said, Brian gets neckties off of bottom of guard/half guard, from the standing clinch, or off of shots.

Agreed on Max's reputation. His winning streak is kind of a big deal, would be a shame if he lost it while taking a fight in another division on a week's notice. Sure people won't blame him for it while knowing the context, but it looks better on paper to have a long streak.

Really Wild @Wild? Some guy coming off of injury against an undefeated killer who is his worse possible match up, and you rainbow me for it. Shit. We should add an Einstein emoji. Both for seriousness and sarcasm.

Oh. That explains why you like The Ville.

Full disclosure I am a closet Louisvillian. Much as I am for Xavier. I have no vested interest in either, but always want both to bust some brackets.

Plus regarding football, I love Louisville's uniforms. I know I sound like a 16 year old girl by saying I like them because they are pretty, but they are. Especially the black on black with the shiny red helmet. (Spare me your sarcasm. I know how bad that reads. But it's true.)

I guess that all depends on who's passing judgement. Personally I'll give Max WAY more credit no matter how good/bad he does here. He literally is giving zero fucks and wants to test himself against the best there is in a division above on short notice, fucking boss right there. This is similar to Diaz vs Conor 1 or Bisping vs Rockhold 2. All the pressure is on the heavy favorite who has had a full camp and is in prime form. Max gets to collect a cheque, see what it feels like to fight a killer at LW and keep his FW belt if he loses. If he wins he gets instant legend status IMO. If he can even hang in there for 3+ rounds, land some shots and put up a fight I'll be super impressed.

I voted for Khabib, but Holloway’s ability to keep fighter’s at range while goading them into a “brawl” is amazing. I put quotations because it is not a brawl. It is the opponent throwing while Holloway uses distance and technique to land. Is very self aware of his advantages and uses them amazingly

However, Khabib is not looking for the brawl, he is looking for the shoot. Frustration in not landing a strike is not on his mind, it is where to impliment the grappling. And Khabib knows his range for shoots, as well as confidence in his power allows him to put the pace on. Spectate that his pushing the pace will out do Max’s pushing the pace approaches.

Do think Holloway had a heads up as a replacement, given the circumstances for this fight, so believe he has been training for one of these two beforehand. Though, he has recently fought many many strikers that give into his style, what we have to go on for speculation reasons is McGregor out grappled him. Yes, McGregor might be a underestimated grappler, but this is Khabib’s speciality. He may have a field day if he does not let Max land too many cominations before he initiates the wrestling

If Max gets his combinations in, I will be interested to see how Khabib handles the volume. Stay tactical or be desperate? Michael Johnson showed a rocked Khabib can be tactical; but thats not the same as Holloway

Agreed. If Michael Johnson can catch Khabib and stagger him, Max definitely can too.
