He does deserve respect. Micheal Johnson to me is Khabibs worst style opponent at the moment. He has some of the best takedown defense and was able to match Tibau in term of physical strength when they fought. The other person to stifled Khabibs takedowns was Tibau. Khabib and Johnson seem to be physically in similar levels(of course MMA math don't work), but If that fight does happen Johnson should be super live dog in a 3 round fight. It's all about styles. I personally would love to see how that fight plays out and if Khbib is able to adapt vs an excellent striker with solid takedown D.

The UFC agrees, which is why they'll never lock Conor in with that monster
Khabib was telling everybody in January and February that there was no way that he would be ready to fight in March, and then 10 days out of a fight on the 5th day of March he offers to fight Conor. I don't think the UFC puts him in there with Conor anyway (doesn't make promotional sense), but the situation that you brought up was a lot more complicated than "Khabib offered and the UFC said no way".

Peter, Khabib would demolish Johnson...........Johnson took an ass whipping from Diaz......he would get humbled

Conor claims to have fought Mendes with an injured leg- do you believe that and if so do you think the UFC was aware..?

He would destroy McGregor and leave him in a ball in the ring.

He deserves serious respect for his heart during the fight, but initially taking the fight is hardly some unprecedented display of toughness. Lots of lower level guys have stepped up on short notice or just been put in a mismatch in MMA before, it happens all the time. Think about every Pride card that has ever happened, for example.

He lives to fight another day, many of us know who he is now, and he is in the UFC. He and his team made the right choice.

Much respect to Horcher. he was coming off a broken arm before this fight , sucks to have take this fight to get into the biggest promotion in MMA, but the risk is worth the reward.

Give him a full camp and some time to work his way to the top and he will give anyone problem at 55.

I'm not sure who I believe in that situation, or what happened. By the way, I am not telling you the UFC's story here. I gathered this information by listening to interviews with Khabib and then applying my own logic. I am speculating just as you are, I guess.. but this is not a situation where I am just believing the UFC dialogue blindly. Khabib told Ariel Helwani multiple times and very clearly that there was no way he would be ready in March. He cited it as the reason that he delayed the Ferguson fight.

nonsense, it's about match ups. JDS and Miocic match up better vs Werdum, but Werdum matches up better vs Cain.

Khabib doesn't strike like Nate at all. Way different fight and if Khabib struggles to get takedowns it gets very interesting. Beniel, Lauzon and Tibau severely struggled to get Johnson down which is why I would like to see that fight happen, Khabib should be favored, but I wouldn't sleep on Johnson.

A lot of people we're heavily favoring Rose over Tecia (some said 1st round finish for Rose) and I said it was gonna be a very competitive fight. An argument can be made for Tecia winning, it's all about the match ups and potential scenarios.

i was liking Horcher striking defense when the fight started and he's offense looked decent, but obviously he fought with no camp. So we haven't really seen how good he could be and vs Khabib on super short notice is not a very winnable scenario.

Horcher vs Paul Felder maybe down the road could make for a good fight. He also didn't look to be in great fighting shape, but he might have potential.

For that to be the reason they turned him down for a fight with Conor yiu would have to believe they give a shit about their fighters long term health, which I'm not sure I believe. At all.

I am not saying that they did it based on his safety. I just don't think Khabib would have been in shape to fight. He said it himself.

Also, if you want to keep going with this, he was promised as a headliner for a Fox card. Barring injury, it would be a very big deal if the UFC took a headliner away from a Fox card to save a PPV. They had a deal with Fox and it would set a bad precedent if they went back on that one. Add that to the fact that the guy had been injured for 2 years and it would be dumb to rush him when they knew Diaz would be down, and it is pretty apparent that there are multiple reasons for why they didn't pick Khabib, and being scared that he would beat Conor is not the most substantial one by a longshot.

How about this- if you were the person running the UFC, would you have chosen Khabib given the circumstances above, or would you have gone with Nate? I think the answer is pretty obvious.

I never liked him jumping the line to fight for the LW title before ever defending the FW title even once. So yeah, I'd eithet put him in with Khabib to prove he's really worthy of the shot. Khabib dropping from the main event he had planned with Ferguson wouldn't piss Fox off since he did and it didn't.

What do you mean he did and it didn't? I specifically mentioned that taking him without an injury is the problem. Ferguson had an injury.

It makes no promotional sense to have him and Khabib fight there. Makes you no extra money and eliminates a future contender no matter who lost. Nate was the choice from the beginning, for good reason. All I'm saying is the Khabib fight had a lot going against it, and it was a lot less black and white than you were supposing.
