Hired an inside sales rep about a month or so ago. Dude in his mid-20s. I explained to him that the first couple of weeks he was going to dance around different departments to better understand all facets of the business. He did all that just fine, and the last week or so he's been in the department that we hired him for, but I explained that we run pretty lean and nobody has singular responsibilities. It's a team effort, etc, etc...

Today we had a driver's assistant call off work and I told the new guy we needed him to help out on a delivery. Nothing crazy - just carrying some doors. It would have taken about 2 hours. He's still in learning mode anyway and not very busy - 2 hours is nothing.

Thread title was his response.
I asked if he was refusing to do the work.
He repeated the thread title.

I told him that was certainly his prerogative, but it wasn't how we operated. I told him I'd assist with the delivery and he could pack up his shit and go home.

I have a meeting with HR this afternoon.
Apparently he called and complained. These youngsters man. Fucking babies.

I find the type that aren't willing to help out the organization when things need to get done and complain that it isn't their role... well they are usually also kind of bad at "their role".

Almost all of the young guys we hire into our entry level roles are a bunch of lazy retards. No self-awareness, no motivation, zero critical thinking skills. One of the guys was walking around the office ripping ass, loudly. Granted, most of us work from home, but there are a handful of folks that have to be on-site. Fartboy was fired within a couple of weeks.

I blame their parents. There's an entire generation of young men that are completely helpless. They don't even have computer skills anymore, since they spend 90% of their time on their phones. We are fucked.

The "we are fucked" thought has crossed my mind a few times when dealing with the younger generation of workers.

I know every generation says that about the generation coming up behind them - but there is a monumental difference.

Ironically, I’m dealing with a tw@ at work just exactly like this. He dared to walk up on me with “this is what the job says” and I said “fuck you, i don’t like you, and you’re a pussy”
My girls laughed and are backing me as they hate the guy….btw, my girls backing me are gangster level hotttttt

We run a small tight knit kitchen, everyone does everything, I asked a new staff member one time to knock out the dish area and got, you didn't hire me for dishes. I responded guess what, I hired you for kitchen staff, kitchen staff does everything. If my wife and I who are the owners do dishes, so do you. He started to respond and I said go home, you can pick up your check next week.

There is no menial task out there I haven't done at work. Clogged toilets; check. Shovel the entrance; check. Take out the garbage; check. I do all of the crap work as needed. Why? Because it needs to get done and I am able to do it.

As many times as I have heard folks say, "He shouldn't be doing that," I can think of perhaps two times when the person saying that actually stepped up to help. Otherwise, their observation seems to suffice, and I just carry on.

You got paid to clog the toilet? How do you prep for that?
