Also do a full install so it installs all the pieces even if you don't need them. You can always go off and play with things on your own.

I owe you one champ

If you ever have to deal with an insurance company and want to fuck them over just let me know
Lol the company I work for now is in the insurance industry, just not as a provider of insurance.

I was in a similar situation to you OP. Parents had a fucking tough upbringing in Portugal and part of what they wanted for me in Australia was to get a good degree and a cushy job. Thing was my father was a pipe fitter/boilermaker who earned a shitload and he still strongly discouraged me from doing physical work.

I told my story in my whinge thread a couple weeks ago. I'm now an accountant who's struggling to get my foot in the door because its so competitive. At nearly 31, its fucked to have to do shitty labouring jobs and cope with rejection letters for jobs you're qualified for and experienced in.

That said, I don't necessarily wished I became a tradie - I wish that I was taught to be business and investment savvy early on and encouraged to run my own business.

Agreed.
Studied in university and got a (almost) useless degree.
I'm happy I broadened my views and thoughts but job-wise?
I own everything to my determination and will... otherwise I'd be really poor and miserable.

I made a deal with my gf; our kids will do what they like to do but we will certainly not brainwash them into thinking that university is the end of everything.

So if they ever wanna get a useless degree like mine, we will strongly steer them towards a trade first so that they can always rely on this skill for good income. Then we'll let them study follow their dream in arts/social sciences/philosophy etc.

I knew this mid way thru high school and I tried to warn people about universities and college degrees.

Fuck all that. I've been a tax preparer for a decade now... I've made 26k in less than a month and yes it's my business.

Currently in another trade skool for air conditioning and heating. I live in one of the hottest climates on earth so there is no ceiling to earning potential once I get my own business going and I make my own hours. Fuck working for someone.
