AJ retires after a title fight in what seems to be his prime.

Jones, who knows what'll unfold. Amazing fighter but his own worst enemy and unreliable.

Gus and Glover fighting could set up yet another rematch or have Glover a bit closer to another shot at almost 40 years old

Manuwa looks to be getting DCs attention but I don't see him as a champ if they set it up. If he did the belt would start to trade hands often.

Shogun is ranked 5th at a time when he's past due for retirement

6th and up don't have me excited at all.

Sheepdog @lordofthepies had a thread about this a while back I think but I can't find it.

Pretty similar situation at HW too. Thankfully we have Ngannou and Lewis keeping fans entertained for now.

It's a damn good thing that they ended up resigning Cirkunov or it would be as weak as their women's 145 division.

The LHW division is very shallow. DC can't have many more fights in him. Jones hasn't demonstrated the ability to stay out of trouble. The future of the division is gonna be OSP, in my opinion.

Yes it's a sad state in this division. Anything above 170 should be openweight. Huge guys can't fight.

OSP is done and has similar mentality to Rumble.
Mousasi is one of the best 205ers also IMO

The lack of depth at LHW is the first thing that springs to mind every time somebody suggests a 225 or 195 division.

This used to be the marquis division in MMA.

It isnt just the LHW its the UFC in general, I saw somewhere today that 18 have retired since the 1st of the year.

MW is the deepest it's ever been, and there's a ton of talent between 170 and 135.

MW has some great talent and I personally enjoy HW fights. Imo 170 and 155 have always been deep but I would agree that the big guys can't fight.

I agree Mousasi is one of the best current 205 pounders. He may even be the best right now. However, he has been fighting so many years. He has lots of miles on him. I expect he only has a couple prime years left before that mileage catches up with him.

OSP is older than Moose, but he is a better athlete and has less miles. I think he will be in the picture longer than Moose. That's why I said future of the division.

Was thin even with Rumble in it. It's rematch city right now.

The answer is yes and no. Yes, this is probably the weakest it's been, but no in the sense that if you look back, it's been this bad for about 10 years. It was hot potato with the belt until a young, long JBJ came in... and started beating up on guys with a million fight miles on their odometers.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the LHW division is redundant. The divisions should go 55, 65, 75, 85, HW. Neither HW or LHW have enough depth and anyone who fights LHW is the same God damn size as a HW.

Man you are way off IMO
nobody has taken as little damage as Gegard and fought 50 fights

I honestly think you are trolling

I was thinking about this as well. What they need to do is match misha up with some favorable opposition and feed him a title shot. If not that, we are looking at rematches galore.

While not taking damage in fights obviously helps, that many training camps will catch up to most eventually. Maybe Mousasy is a freak of nature, we'll see.
