It's because he can't do decent feuds or storylines, so a tourney gives him a reason to put on a low stakes matches that Meltzer can cream himself over and give four or five stars despite having no drama or psychology behind it.

The crazy thing is that when booked properly, a tournament can give you some of the best storytelling, drama, intrigue, anticipationg & feud-buliding.
It is a great way to set up midcard feuds with the "you denied me my shot at the title" stuff in qualifying tourneys such as this one, particularly when matches are stolen...which they kinda did last night, but we'll see if anything develops from it.

Reports are out that Tony CoKahne actually confiscated the belt from Moxley so he could wear it around backstage. Local laborers working on Dynamite setup reportedly heard a high pitched, squeeky voice running around backstage exclaiming 'I'm the real champ! Right daddy? Tony's a good champ?'
The Kamille shit is weird. After the rumors she was being buried, they tried to play off her not being on TV was because she was doing promotion for the Queen of the Ring film, since she's like the final boss in the film or something.
But then AEW does their own, "Go see Queen of the Ring" vignette as part of cross-promotion, and they use a bunch of other female wrestlers who are in the film or at the red carpet premiere, but NOT Kamille?!?!
So it definitely looks like she pissed somebody off real bad, and is being buried. Yet she is still paid to stay home and not wrestle as opposed to being released, cuz TK gonna TK.
