Good man, terrible president.
He had alot of the same problems trump had, his people were doing whatever they wanted and not being honest with him, actively working against him at times. As a Naval officer this just didn't compute for the man, he didn't understand what was happening in his own Whitehouse.
The first president I really remember, even remember having to watch the debate as a little dude. I was probably in 2nd grade.

I recently watched a documentary that went into the iran hostage affair and how Reagan's folks convinced the Iranians to postpone their release until after the election, convincing them that Reagan would give them a better deal.
Reagan won the election by a landslide, and the hostages were released while he was giving his inaugural address.
Not saying Carter was a good president. But he was a contrarian politician and the system chewed him up.

Good piece that dispels the Saint Jimmy myth. He was an asshole, even to other Democrats. He didn't get more done as president because House Speaker Tip O'Neil hated him. One of my college professors worked in the Carter State Department and said he pissed off every European leader who personally met him by lecturing to them and treating them like idiots.
