From a 1971 interview in Playboy:

“Wayne also spoke harshly about Native Americans when asked if he felt any empathy for them, considering they played an essential role in his films.

"I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them if that's what you're asking," said Wayne. "Our so-called stealing of this country from them was just a matter of survival. They were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves… Look, I'm sure there have been inequalities. If those inequalities are presently affecting any of the Indians now alive, they have a right to a court hearing. But what happened 100 years ago in our country can't be blamed on us today."”

“When Lewis asked Wayne which films he considered perverted, Wayne listed 1969's "Easy Rider" and "Midnight Cowboy."

"Would you say that the wonderful love of those two men in 'Midnight Cowboy,' a story about two fags qualifies?" said Wayne, using a homophobic slur. "But don't get me wrong. As far as a man and a woman is concerned, I'm awfully happy there's a thing called sex. It's an extra something God gave us. I see no reason why it shouldn't be in pictures. Healthy, lusty sex is wonderful."”

“Wayne was also asked about educator/activist Angela Davis and discrimination. He responded, "With a lot of blacks, there's quite a bit of resentment along with their dissent, and possibly rightfully so. But we can't all of a sudden get down on our knees and turn everything over to the leadership of the blacks. I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people."”

I'm not sure that's true...

34 and a family deferment would probably be pretty common at that age.

Wayne was exempted from service due to his age (34 at the time of Pearl Harbor) and family status, classified as 3-A (family deferment). He repeatedly wrote John Ford saying he wanted to enlist, on one occasion inquiring whether he could get into Ford's military unit, but consistently kept postponing it until after "he finished just one or two pictures". Wayne did not attempt to prevent his reclassification as 1-A (draft eligible), but was emphatically resistant to losing him; , President of Republic, threatened Wayne with a lawsuit if he walked away from his contract, and Republic Pictures intervened in the Selective Service process, requesting Wayne's further deferment.:213

Wayne toured U.S. bases and hospitals in the South Pacific for three months in 1943 and 1944.:253 with the By many accounts, Wayne's failure to serve in the military was the most painful experience of his life.:212 His widow later suggested that his patriotism in later decades sprang from guilt, writing: "He would become a 'superpatriot' for the rest of his life trying to atone for staying home

Obviously not a badass like Jimmy Stewart. But I'm not sure someone mid 30s with 4 kids getting a family deferment is draft dodging...

Stewart enlisted as a private[12][35] but applied for an Air Corps commission and Service Pilot rating as both a college graduate and a licensed commercial pilot. Soon to be 33, he was almost six years beyond the maximum age restriction for Aviation Cadet training, the normal path of commissioning for pilots, navigators and bombardiers. The now-obsolete auxiliary pilot ratings (Glider Pilot, Liaison Pilot and Service Pilot) differed from the Aviation Cadet Program in that a higher maximum age limit and corrected vision were allowed upon initial entry. Stewart received his commission as a second lieutenant on January 1, 1942,[36] shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, while a corporal at Moffett Field, California. He received his Service Pilot rating at that time, under the Service Pilot program established in March 1942 for experienced former civilian pilots. Although Service Pilots were normally restricted to noncombat flying, they were permitted to fly overseas on cargo and utility transports, typically with Air Transport, Ferry or Troop Carrier Commands. Under the regulations of the period, a Service Pilot could obtain an unrestricted Pilot rating after one year of USAAF service on flying status, provided he met certain flight experience requirements and passed an evaluation board, and some did in fact go on to combat flying assignments.[37] Stewart's first assignment was an appearance at a March of Dimes rally in Washington, D.C., but Stewart wanted assignment to an operational unit rather than serving as a recruiting symbol. He applied for and was granted advanced training on multi-engine aircraft. Stewart was posted to nearby Mather Field to instruct in both single- and twin-engine aircraft.[35][

I'm a big JW fan, but this is a dumbass statement. Sign of the times I guess, but those times were obviously full of bigots.

Yeah, the "he was a draft dodger" shit is ignorant. He was in his mid-30s with a family.

Actually, i think the country wanted him to keep making patriotic pictures during the war for morale reasons - and he visited the troops multiple times.

But JW always regretted never serving his country. He stated that was his biggest regret in life.

Dude.
There's some great films you are missing out on.
That's what I hear but for one reason or another, never watched a single one. The same people who recommend them also tend to like Top Gun, to this day, and that seems like a bunch of big meaniery (I don't even type faggotry anymore cause I just assume it'll come out as big meaniery).
