Well my pick for next to jump ship just dropped
Good for duffy
Probably not good for Duffy, other than that he's employed for at least one fight, after which his being bound to his contract -- if he loses -- could be completely up to the discretion of the UFC (if they are still writing the type of contracts as in the past, and with the cutthroat lawyers of WME the contracts might even be more employee-hostile).
lorofthepies is likely 100% correct, above.
All that "6 figure contract" boosheet years ago was just that. Those (at least some of, maybe all of the) contracts for TUF winners were written with escalating purses (smallest in front) where the contract was void as far as the fighter's rights if the TUF winner lost, and could be enforced after a loss at the UFC's discretion (i.e. fighter had no freedom, win or lose, to leave the contract for its duration). 10 years ago I think the opening purses were like $12K/$12K at the front end, something like that, so if you won the show & lost your first fight, your "6 figure contract" could be void at $12K or whatever.
If a loss frees Duffy, too, then good for him on getting that in the contract. Otherwise, it just puts a ceiling on his earning potential in a period when salaries & contract terms are being more intensely contested than at any time in the past.
If the contracts are void at the UFC's discretion, like in the past, the length of the contract is a mirage (since the fighter isn't protected from the UFC dropping him or voiding the contract & renegotiating if he loses, which you would think would be the main point, for the fighter, of having an extended contract).
