I've been working remote from home since 2008, and it isn't for everyone. Yes it allows tremendous perks, such as flexibility. But it requires discipline to stay committed & organized, and it's easy to find yourself feeling forgotten, and like you're on an island if you're not careful. Glad that I'm now working for a company that's 90 minutes away. I actually enjoy spending time there and interacting & collaborating with colleagues, as I wasn't able to do that often at my previous jobs that were located in AR, KS, and TX. So in that regard, I do feel like my time is more productive there than it is at home.
I agree, i would hit an office occasionally if i could, but for 20years the closest one was 3000 miles away. I'm sure many new work at home types slack, I do sometimes. But overall I'm pretty dialed and productive. I also do little things like dress for work in the home office. Helps set my mind right. During Covid I couldn't stand the dorks who would grow out their hair and beards, as if they were unable to stay groomed.

I was WFH for a few years prior to covid. Fall of 2023 I started hybrid, 2 in the office and 3 at home. Good balance.

Certainly not for most people, and not possible for many roles. Much easier to get into a zone and work hard 4-5 hours uninterrupted at home than the office. I prefer my meetings and team projections to be in-person
