Today I also got to see a journalistic reenactment of the encounter between Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman. They did a 360 animation with all witnesses and 911 calls and everything. It was a fascinating use of the technology.

Based on what I'm seeing now, I'll likely stick with cardboard until I see more investment by developers and probably wait on a gen 2. Oculus has been in development so long I'm reasonably confident it will be pretty ready and leaps and bounds ahead of where cardboard and analogues are now, but I figure the early focus will be the gamer market which I'm not really a part of.

Did you happen to see the 2 at a time video? I finally got my hands on that and it pretty much sealed the deal. Also the Orbulus app transporting me to Mars.
I haven't, but ill check it out now though.

$10 if you buy the kit from google and put it together yourself.

$20-$25 if you buy a preassembled one like I did. Got mine from Knox Labs, which is one of the approved google devices.
I was waiting to hear $2000 or something like that

Recent adventures have me hanging with some dinosaurs in a small jurassic park and chilling in some dude's apartment on an alien world, looking through his skylight at a moon that hovers close to the surface and getting in bed with his wife.

when you take the head set off do you feel dizzy or anything?
Sometimes a little bit. It depends on the app. According to research, continued use accustoms you to it. I just wonder if it can have any long term impact on vision or equilibrium. Sometimes my eyes get tired.

Then again, I've been high a lot when I've been using this thing.

One of the cooler apps I've yet seen is an app where you're literally in this woman's body walking around her living room and bathroom. You get to take a shower as her (fully clothed), but seeing the water fall over you is pretty amazing. Eventually you look in the mirror and see yourself. Paired with some kind of body tracking device like kinect or leap motion it would be truly awesome because as it stands now, it's like you're paralyzed a bit since it only follows your head motion.

But by far the coolest most incredible acid trip like experience I've had is in an app called VRSE watching this CGI movie called Evolution of Verse. It starts with you in a lake then you get hit by a train then birds are everywhere then ribbons then you're whisked into this womb where this massive baby reaches for you. It tripped me the F out at first, but it's undeniably the most advanced film project done to date.

So I decided to take the next step up the ladder. I bought a new S7 and a Samsung Gear VR. So far the experience isn't that much better than cardboard to justify the cost, but it's pretty cool. I'm not a fan of the side panel navigation and feel the app store is pretty underdeveloped, but the graphics are a slight notch up and it's more comfortable on the face. Haven't watched adult cinema on it yet, but that was a treat on cardboard.

I have a Nexus 6p and the lack of a made for device VR set is bullshit.

I didn't want the Samsung phone, but almost went that route.for the gear.

For me, movie watching is huge. I spend a lot of time on airplanes and watching stuff in the virtual theater is amazing.

Not worth it over cardboard? I'd pay the extra just for the comfort and having both hands free....for reasons.

My buddy had a cardboard one. It was pretty cool. One of my friends was hammer drunk and put it on, and the video was like a street scene or something and you launch way above the city and there is this hot chick up there floating in the sky. His drunk ass kept trying to walk towards her, tripping over a bunch of shit in my living room.

You can make a strap fairly easily with a $1 piece of velcro and some duct tape.

So the Vive's room-scale VR has been getting pretty good reviews. I think I'm ready to dive in. kneeblock @Kneeblock, had a chance to play with one yet?

No I haven't but I hear it's overpriced and that you may as well get oculus or a console based device at its price point even at the loss of mobility. I think they'll all be cool though. I'm starting to explore the online communities. It's like second life but with avatars that are mimicking your head movements and using your actual voice.
